Blue skies and warming trend for South Lake Tahoe; Chance for new storm Sunday

A storm that didn't match predictions has moved east of Lake Tahoe, leaving behind fresh snow and clearing skies. Forecasts call for warming days and chilly nights around Lake Tahoe.

The storm hit the Reno and Carson City area the hardes, with lake-effect snow which dropped from 6 to about 18 inches. The deepest Reno-area snow fell in Stead, Panther Valley and Cold Springs. Over 36,000 Nevada Energy customers were without power overnight, causing some schools to close Tuesday.

The forecast for South Lake Tahoe from the National Weather Service:

Today - High near 36. Southwest wind around 5 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Total daytime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.

Tonight - Mostly clear, with a low around 16. Calm wind.

Veterans Day - Sunny, with a high near 43. Calm wind.

Wednesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 18. Calm wind becoming east around 5 mph.

Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 45. East wind around 5 mph.

Thursday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 19.

Friday - Sunny, with a high near 48.

Friday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 23.

Saturday - Sunny, with a high near 51.

Saturday Night - Partly cloudy, with a low around 26.

Sunday - A chance of showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 52.

Sunday Night - A chance of rain and snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27.
