Alleged sales of marijuana edibles at Douglas High leads to arrest and hospital visit

One student at Douglas High School in Minden was arrested along with a nearby resident after allegedly selling marijuana laced Rice Krispie treats on school groups which led to one student needing medical treatment.

On November 3 an investigation began after a student complained of feelings of anxiety and an accelerated heart rate. She said she may have eaten a Rice Crispy square laced with marijuana earlier in the day and named another female student as the person who brought the edible marijuana to school.

The ill student was taken to a medical facility for treatment by her parent.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office (DCSO) investigated and interviewed the students involved and reviewed videotaped recordings of the school’s common area. On the tape they saw three students involved in the drug transactions with one transaction for monetary payment of the marijuana edibles.

The student selling the edibles was questioned further and identified the source of the marijuana edible. The student selling the edibles was arrested and transported to Douglas County Juvenile Probation with juveniles charges pending.

Douglas County Special Enforcement Team (DCSET) responded to an apartment near the high school and contacted Tiame Vogel, the adult woman identified by the student as the source of the illicit Rice Krispie treat. She admitted to the sale and was arrested and transported to the jail in Minden.

Nevada is one of 20 states that decriminalized marijuana possession for those 21-years of age and older, but the purchase and use is not be legal in the state until January, 2017, and will still be illegal for those under 21.
