Winter storm warning for Lake Tahoe; 4" - 8" of snow at lake level

The National Weather Service has upgraded the system heading to the Sierra. They have put in a Winter Storm Warning from noon Tuesday, November 24 to 4 a.m. on Wednesday. Since the storm is coming from the north, forecasters expect snow to hit Washoe County by 10 a.m. and South Lake Tahoe by 12:00 p.m.
Holiday travelers can expect roads to be impacted with heavy snow Tuesday afternoon and evening, and slick roads on Wednesday.
A high wind warning is in effect from 4 p.m. Monday until noon on Tuesday, prior to the snow falling.
Very cold air will remain after the snow ends with highs in the 20s and lows in the teens. Some areas will see single digits Wednesday through Saturday. This will be the longest stretch of cold weather since January of 2013 according to the National Weather Service in Reno.
Tonight - Scattered rain and snow showers after 4am. Partly cloudy, with a low around 35. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Total nighttime snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Tuesday - Scattered rain and snow showers before 7am, then snow showers. Temperature rising to near 42 by 10am, then falling to around 25 during the remainder of the day. Windy, with a southwest wind 25 to 30 mph, with gusts as high as 45 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.
Tuesday Night - Snow showers. Low around 19. Breezy, with a southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible.
Wednesday - Snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 25. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Wednesday Night - A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 14. West wind around 5 mph becoming east in the evening. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Thanksgiving Day - A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 27.
Thursday Night - A 20 percent chance of snow showers. Partly cloudy, with a low around 11.
Friday - A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 30.
Friday Night - A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.
Saturday - A chance of snow. Partly sunny, with a high near 30.
Saturday Night - A chance of snow showers. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16.
Sunday - A slight chance of snow showers. Partly sunny, with a high near 32.
Sunday Night - Mostly cloudy, with a low around 20.
Monday - Partly sunny, with a high near 39.
