The following is the ski, snowboard and weather report for Saturday, December 19, 2015 for South Lake Tahoe brought to you by Lake Tahoe SkiBum.
Weather - Winter Weather Advisory until noon today. South Lake Tahoe will have a high of 37 and a low of 16. Today: Snow before 10am, then snow showers, mainly between 10am and 4pm. High near 37. West wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 3 inches possible. Tonight: Scattered snow showers before 10pm, then a slight chance of snow showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 16. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 30%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Heavenly - Powder conditions. 79% of their terrain is now open which means 3800 acres, 25 lifts and 92 runs are open. 1" new snow in the last 24 hours. The base depth is 37". Lift status. Snow before 10am, then snow showers, mainly between 10am and 4pm. High near 28. Very windy, with a southwest wind 30 to 40 mph, with gusts as high as 55 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Special statement from Heavenly: We received 1-2" of new snow overnight and a total of 15" over the past week. Today's forecast calls for snow showers, mainly between 10am and 4pm, with new snow accumulation of around 1 to 2 inches! Today's high will be near 28°. It is expected to be very windy today, with strong SW winds and strong gusts that may impact lift operations, so please stay tuned for updates on lift operations. Weather permitting; we have 25 lifts that are scheduled to spin from 8:30am-4:00pm via four mountain access points - The Heavenly Gondola, the CA Main Lodge, Stagecoach Lodge, and now Boulder Lodge. We have 80% of our Heavenly terrain open, giving you access to 92 runs, of which 39 are groomed. Our groomers suggest Mombo Meadows in CA and Olympic Downhill in NV. Expert Canyons – Mott and Killebrew are now open! Also, the Groove Terrain Park is opening today!
Sierra-at-Tahoe - Powder. Groomed conditions on 27 of their 38 open trails. 10 lifts are open. Broadway Terrain Park, Upper Snowshoe and Burton Progression Park are open. 5" new snow in the last 24 hours. The base depth is 18" and the summit is 43". Lift status. Snow showers before 10am, then snow after 10am. High near 33. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 5 inches possible.
Kirkwood - Packed powder. 100% of terrain is now open. All 2300 acres are open with 10 lifts and 86 runs open. 7" new snow in the last 24 hours. Lift status. The base depth is 39". Snow showers before 10am, then snow after 10am. Temperature falling to around 24 by 8am. Southwest wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. Total daytime snow accumulation of 3 to 7 inches possible.
