Chain controls up for busiest travel day after holiday snow storm arrives

The highly touted snow storm has arrived a bit early. There are chain controls already up on the passes, with accidents being reported on both Highway 50 and I-80.

Chain controls listed below are subject to change as the Winter Storm Warning is in effect until Saturday at 7:00 a.m.

Highway 50 over Echo Summit - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels from Fred's Place to Meyers. Just before 8:00 a.m. there were two accidents report. One near the Wright's Lake intersection where a car has reportedly spun out and is being held by trees above the river. At the same time, a collision near the Sierra-at-Tahoe intersection where a vehicle is on its roof.

Highway 50 over Spooner Summit - Chains or snow tires.

Highway 50 at the lake - Chains or snow tires on Nevada side from Stateline over the summit.

SR 28 - Chains or snow tires

Mt. Rose Highway - Chains or Snow tires

SR89 South - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels from Christmas Valley to Hope Valley.

SR89 North - Chains or traction devices are required on all vehicles except four wheel / all wheel drive vehicles with snow treaded tires on all wheels from Camp Richardson to Bliss State Park, the Tahoma to Tahoe City.
