SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Step back in time at the Lake Tahoe Historical Society's annual Holiday in History event on Saturday, December 15, 2018. This special day has become a family favorite and you don't want to miss it.

All day long the museum and historic cabin will be open for all to enjoy the decorations on display during free tours - doors open at 11:00 a.m. These will also be a Victorian Christmas scene in the museum. The bookstore is open for those on your gift list and a giant snowflake is free with all purchases $25 or over.

It was July 4, 1776 when we first celebrated independence, and now 242 years later, we continue to do so. Lake Tahoe is one of those special place to enjoy the holiday and here are a few things offered:

8:00 a.m. - Kiva Beach Community Yoga

It's time again for the Amgen Tour of California, and the South Lake Tahoe area once again is host to both the men's and the women's portions of the race.

On Friday, May 18, the town will be the scene for the men's Stage 6 and the women's Stage 2, but with the rolling road closures and number of people in town for the day will take some planning to watch the excitement.

Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFDO) is hosting community gathering on Sunday, June 25 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m to mark the 10th anniversary of the devastating Angora Fire. This event will focus on the community’s healing and resiliency.

Join the Kirkwood Rescue Avalanche Dog Foundation at their 3rd annual Fundraiser on April 1 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m at Kirkwood Mountain Resort's Red Cliffs Lodge. Meet the avalanche dogs of Kirkwood while supporting the Kirkwood Rescue Avalanche Foundation!

Entry is $10 per guest and $5 raffle tickets are being sold before, and during, the event. Pick up your raffle tickets before the event at any Kirkwood Ski Patrol building while you’re out skiing.

Sherry Guzzi from Sierra Wildlife Coalition will be presenting “The Beavers of Taylor Creek” at Taylor Creek Visitor Center on Friday July 29 at 8:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and admission is a five-dollar donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Join Tahoe Heritage Foundation and NorCal Bats for a LIVE bat presentation. This Friday, July 15, at 8:30 pm. This event is open to the public and is a $5.00 donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Come learn about the importance of bats in the ecosystem, such as keeping those pesky mosquitoes populations down. The LIVE bats will be projected onto a large screen so everyone can see there delicate structures. All bats are certified as non-releasable by California Department of Fish & Game and the U.S. Department of Agriculture-injury precludes them from surviving in the wild.

Speaker Jim Clark will present his program, “Trains in the Movies”, in a free presentation at the Dangberg Home Ranch Historic Park on Saturday, July 9, at 10:00 am.

The Loft at Heavenly Village has been in the works for months, and now it's just a few weeks from opening day on December 15.

The new indoor, year-round live theater is in a newly created space above the current Heavenly Village Cinemas created by PR Entertainment. It will include a bar and lounge, 107 seat theater and Italian restaurant featuring Chef Lisa Devenchezi-Miller, who also owns of Capisce? in South Lake Tahoe.

If you missed the LIVE bats at Taylor Creek Visitors Center in July, you are in luck, they will be back this Friday August 21 at 8:00 p.m. Join Tahoe Heritage Foundation and NorCal Bats for a LIVE bat presentation. This event is open to the public and is a $5.00 donation to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Join the Tahoe Heritage Foundation and the U.S. Forest Service at Lake of the Sky Amphitheater on Friday, July 24 for a fun and educational presentation by NorCal Bats. Learn about these amazing flying mammals and their importance to our ecosystem, such as insect control.

The live lecture is at Taylor Creek Visitor Center's Lake of the Sky Amphitheater at 8:30 p.m. It is open to the public. Cost is a $5 donation which goes to the Tahoe Heritage Foundation.

Stroll through a holiday wonderland with thousands of twinkling lights on decorated Christmas trees and holiday decor! Vote for your favorite tree in the Festival's "People's Choice Award" contest. Settle down to watch the entertainment, bid in the silent auction, enter the raffle, get a family photo with Santa, and take the kids to Teddy Bear Hospital. Kids can stop by the Gingerbread Junction, where they can write a letter to Santa and drop it in the giant mailbox for express delivery to the North Pole.

Lake Tahoe fire protection agencies all agree: defensible space isn’t a bunch of hot air. To back up the importance of defensible space, they’re organizing a free Wildfire Awareness Week kick-off event that includes free tethered Smokey Bear hot air balloon rides (weather permitting), firefighter photo opportunities, a pancake breakfast and more on Saturday, May 25th from 8am – 12pm outside MontBleu Resort Casino and Spa.
