19 Nabbed in Phony Contractor Sting in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 05/02/2014 - 9:24pmA simultaneous sting operation between the California State License Board and the Nevada Contractors License Board snared 11 people on the California side of South Lake Tahoe and 8 on the Nevada side on Wednesday.
Named the "Border Blitz," the sting was conducted at a SLT single family home near the Hwy 89 and Hwy 50 intersection (the "Y")and at a condominium in Stateline, NV. Investigators from the CSLB and NCLB posed as homeowners seeking bids for various projects that included exterior painting, deck work, landscaping, and other tasks requiring general "B" contractor skills.
South Lake Tahoe Woman Involved in Motorcycle Crash Dies of Her Injuries
Submitted by paula on Thu, 03/27/2014 - 11:55amA 21 year old South Lake Tahoe woman involved in a motorcycle accident on Saturday night in Carson City has succumbed to her injuries according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Audrey G. Rugamas was taken off life support on Wednesday, March 26. Ms. Rugamas had received severe injuries in the accident which also injured the motorcycle's driver, 20 year old Andrey L. Gallegos of Sparks, NV. An update on his condition has not been released.

The Nevada Highway Patrol(NHP) was called to the scene of a motorcycle accident at the intersection of Roop and Fairview Streets at approximately 10:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 22.

The names of the victims have not been released but the passenger of the unregistered green 2007 Suzuki motorcycle is a 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe woman and the driver, 20, is from Nebraska, said NHP Trooper Dan Lopez. They were flown separately to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
Body Found at Lampe Park in Gardnerville

At 8:21 am, Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a body found by Park Rangers. Sheerin's cause of death is suspected as drowning, however final cause will not be determined until after the autopsy and toxicology reports have been completed.
South Lake Tahoe Man Admits Fraudulent Golf Course Scheme
Submitted by paula on Thu, 02/13/2014 - 6:00pmRENO, Nev. (AP) — A Lake Tahoe-area man accused of bilking 11 investors out of $3.6 million in a fraudulent scheme to buy a Douglas County golf course has pleaded guilty to 24 federal charges, including wire fraud and money laundering.
U.S. Attorney Dan Bogden says 55-year-old Scott Summerhays of South Lake Tahoe, pleaded guilty Wednesday in federal court in Reno.
From 2008-10, prosecutors say Summerhays told potential investors he was purchasing Genoa Lakes Golf Club near Gardnerville for $17 million.

SnowGlobe Begins in South Lake Tahoe

The three day concert got underway on Sunday, December 29 and will wrap up with a New Year's Eve show on Tuesday night.
Throngs of people made their way into the concert Sunday, some decked out in costume, others scantily clad, while many took heed to the cold weather and came prepared in warm clothing. It was apparent that all were there for a good time and many started their party prior to arrival.
Armed Man Sought in Gardnerville Liqour Store Robbery
Submitted by paula on Fri, 12/27/2013 - 1:47pmThe Lucky Liquor Store on Highway 395 in Gardnerville was robbed on December 26 by a Hispanic man with a small semi-automatic weapon.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, the suspect walked into the liquor store at 8:30 pm and demanded money from the store employee. The robber is described as a Hispanic male, 30 to 35 years of age, 6’ tall, 250 pounds wearing a black jacket with a hood and black shorts. The lower part of his face was covered by a red bandana. He used a small semi-automatic silver and black pistol to commit the robbery.
National Search on for Missing Carson Valley Children
Submitted by paula on Thu, 12/12/2013 - 5:59pmThe search is on for Kathryn Ann Moore, 44 and her two children Patricia Read, 5, and William Moore, 2, after Moore failed to return the children to their father Richard Read of Gardnerville, NV.
According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, Moore was to be in court to exchange the children with Read on November 21. Attempts to contact Kathryn have been unsuccessful and a recent visit to her home has indicated that she has left with the children.
Gardnerville Shooting Today Leaves One Man Dead
Submitted by paula on Mon, 12/02/2013 - 2:11pm12/3/13 9 am update: A 29 year old woman from Gardnerville, NV, Nicole Christine Followill, has been arrested and booked on the charge of open murder with the death of a fellow Gardnerville resident Monday morning. The victim has been identified as 33 year old Jason Richard Thrift of Gardnerville. According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department, the two apparently were involved in a dispute, Followill produced a handgun and shot Thrift. Followill will be arraigned in East Fork Justice Court on Wednesday, December 4.
Elderly Man Shoots and Kills Caregiver in Douglas County

Norlund said he shot and killed her and then asked a neighbor to call 911.

South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos win big in April
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 06/10/2013 - 8:58amSouth Shore Lake Tahoe casinos were among the top earners for Nevada casinos during month of April, netting a 14.48 percent increase in gaming profits over April 2012 figures, the state's gaming control board reports Monday.
Casinos at Stateline had a casino "win" of $5,728,649 for the month, compared to $13,739,313 in April 2012. Statewide, gaming profits in Nevada fell slightly by 0.16 percent. Nevada casinos made $854,293,047 for the month.

The Carson Memories contest asked participants to submit their favorite photos demonstrating something special or distinct about the Carson City area.
The winning photos, along with the other select photos, are being incorporated into an exhibit created by Gardnerville artist, Beverly Caputo. The exhibit is featured next to a recently finished mural painted by Caputo. The mural depicts key people, places and things of historical relevance to Carson City.
Lake Tahoe casinos help Nevada pull in positive February gaming profits

For the fiscal year gaming win has increased 2.29 percent.
South Shore Lake Tahoe casinos saw a 7.4 percent increase in gaming profits in February compared to last year, taking $16,290,238. North Lake Tahoe had an impressive 35.26 increase in gaming "win" keeping $2,195,188.

Gardnerville boy, 4, dies in vehicle U-Haul accident
Submitted by Editor on Mon, 02/25/2013 - 10:23amA 4-year-old Gardnerville boy, Mason Geist, died in an accident Sunday in the 900 block of Cavelti Road in the Spring Valley area south of Gardnerville, the Douglas County Sheriff Office reports.
Deputies responded at 3:45 p.m., to 980 Cavelti Road in the Spring Valley area on the report of a vehicle accident involving the injury of a 4-year-old boy, said Douglas County Undersheriff Paul Howell.
The injured child was transported to the Carson Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival, Howell said in a news release.

A Cessna model 172, red and white in color, bearing tail number N328SP, left the Minden Airport Wednesday at around 5 p.m. The plane was piloted by 46 year-old Keith Jorgenson of Gardnerville. Jorgenson was the sole occupant of the plane.

Right now they contain the mural paintings of Kit Carson, V&T Railroad, Dat So La Lee, the Carson Mint, Carson Nugget, Roosevelt’s Speech Capital Building, Carson Brewery and Capital Building; but soon those walls could contain so much more.

Missing snowboarder found alive, stayed overnight at Horizon
Submitted by Editor on Thu, 01/10/2013 - 8:42amA search for missing snowboarder Corey Hoffman ended this morning when the Douglas County Sheriff's Office was contacted by a family member who informed them that Hoffman had phoned his father and advised he had spent the night at Horizon Casino Resort.
Deputies contacted Corey at the Stagecoach Lodge where he had proceeded to, and according to him he was unaware of the search for him. After a lengthy interview with Corey and his brother who had reported him missing, we are unable to determine exactly what transpired.

Woman recovering from frostbite after six nights in Hope Valley

Gardnerville resident Paula Lane, 46, and boyfriend Roderick Paul Clifton, 44, were reported missing after they left Citrus Heights, Calif., on the afternoon of Nov. 29.
On Wednesday, Lane was found along Burnside Lake Road by her brother, who took a frontloader from a nearby state transportation shed and drove up the road.
Lane is at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center recovering after she arrived there 9 p.m. Wednesday.
