As El Dorado County prepares their three year strategic plan they are seeking input from the community on many different issues.

A survey is the first step, and can be taken here. This is the first step and it will be followed by local town hall meetings and focus groups. Information gathered will be presented to the County Supervisors and goal-setting teams.

There have been no meeting dates announced yet.

There are two upcoming workshops, one in South Lake Tahoe and the other in Tahoe City, to evaluate the mobility needs of residents.

The South Lake Tahoe workshop is being held on September 30 at 1 p.m. inside the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center's conference room located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. . Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) invites people to share comments on unmet transit needs in the South Shore Tahoe Region.

Attendance is encouraged at the public hearing to share thoughts and learn more about transportation within the Tahoe Region.

On Thursday, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) released photos of a person of interest in a sexual assault case they were investigating. By the afternoon, they received an anonymous tip suggesting the identity of the man, and soon after, the unidentified man's lawyer contacted SLTPD to arrange a meeting.

The attorney indicated his client is willing to cooperate with this investigation. So far, there is not enough evidence to warrant an arrest and the case is still under investigation.

A victim had reported being sexually assaulted early in the morning of August

Last spring, Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) students in 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th and 11th grades took a new style of state testing. The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) was an on-line assessment that measured their problem solving and critical thinking skills.

LTUSD Superintendent Dr. James Tarwater will present the results to the School Board Trustees during Tuesday's board meeting.

Aquatic invasive species (AIS) are one of the most serious challenges facing Lake Tahoe. They continuously threaten to damage its unique environment and famed water clarity and degrade the world-class recreational experiences residents and millions of visitors enjoy each year.

Fortunately, Tahoe is a national leader in fighting AIS, with the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency and 40 public and private partners working to prevent, detect, and remove harmful infestations.

As part of the City of South Lake Tahoe's 50th anniversary celebration they held a recent history hunt, and all participants finding getting all 15 answers correct were honored with a prize during Tuesday's City Council meeting. The questions led people on a tour of South Lake Tahoe, looking for clues in city owned locations.

On the job for just 17 months, Mark Carlson has been given a promotion. The Administrative Services Director is also now the Assistant City Manager.

Citing his exemplary service, City Manager Nancy Kerry made the announcement of his promotion during Tuesday's City Council meeting.

July 25, 2015 will always be known as the day Jacob "Jake" Callanan saved a life.

The 24-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was working at Ski Run Marina as a boat deck hand when he responded to a woman screaming from the lake. He waded out, found a submerged woman and carried her to shore.

The El Dorado County Board of Supervisors will be holding their annual meeting in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, August 31. A full day is on the agenda, but very little will actually be in a meeting format.

At 9 a.m., Sue Novasel, the Supervisor from District 5, will give the Supervisors a tour of the new Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care at the corner of Al Tahoe Blvd and Pioneer Trail. They then move to the El Dorado Center at 10 a.m. for a tour of county facilities followed by a 11 a.m. tour of the Library.

What's not to love about sunrises and sunsets in Lake Tahoe? While it is fairly easy for most to catch a sunset, very few actually get to experience a sunrise because of the early hour.

"Chasing Sunrise" is a community that understands that with each sunrise, we are given a choice to make: we can either stay in bed waiting for life to come to us or we can get up and get after it, chasing what we want.

As people move into bear country the bears learn that people has tasty food, even if its not exactly what they should be eating. They also learn that people leave this tasty food out where they can easily find it, in trash cans in front of homes and in big dumpsters at restaurants, motels and timeshares.

The year was 1946. The President was Harry S. Truman, "It's a Wonderful Life" was in the theaters and a stamp cost three cents. It was also the year the Tahoe Trout Farm opened in South Lake Tahoe.

This business, located off of Lake Tahoe Blvd on Blue Lake Avenue, was the topic of the South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission's meeting on August 13.

In an effort to "Clean Up Highway 50," the City's sign ordinance is meant to get rid of the blight and unattractive signage that visitors and locals see each day they travel the main artery through town.

The underwater scenes could be straight out of "Creature of the Black Lagoon." Long feathery tendrils of green plants, growing at alarming rates in the Tahoe Keys and attracting fish not before known in the crystal blue waters of the lake.

The plant described here is better known as the Eurasian Watermilfoil. It is joined by another nuisance non-native plant, the curlyleaf pondweed, in creating problems in the waters of the Tahoe Keys.

Once considered rundown and dirty, Reno, as well as neighboring Sparks, is experiencing a staggering rebirth. Only eight percent of their economy now comes from the gaming and tourism industry, with the remainder coming from a boom of the relocation of manufacturing and distribution companies.

What is evident is that the Reno of today is not the Reno of 25 years ago. It isn't even the same Reno of four years ago.

A new vacation home rental (VHR) ordinance will take effect in South Lake Tahoe on October 1, 2015.

The new ordinance will require all homeowners who want to rent out their homes to get it inspected by the Zoning Administrator prior to being issued a license. Since the real estate community told City Council that not having a permit prior to escrow may cause homeowners to lose sales, the current homeowner may now get it inspected prior to the sale in order to take as much uncertainty away from sales as possible. This inspection will be valid for one year.

Each year the Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club holds their signature fundraiser, the St. Patrick's Day Celebration, and because of this they are able to give away tens of thousands of dollars in scholarships, grants and gifts to members of the community.

On Friday, local non-profits were handed the fruits of the Rotarian's labor at their annual community donation day.

The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department installed Automated External Defibrillators (AED) in all city staffed buildings this week including the airport, Parks and Recreation Swim Complex, Motor Pool, Senior Center, Transit Center, Services Center and at the Police Department.

Three preliminary design concepts for Regan Beach were presented at a community meeting in South Lake Tahoe on Tuesday.

Almost 50 people attended the meeting, giving their input on the three choices. The engaged group gave Design Workshop, the company providing the redesign concepts, a lot of input on all three plans.

Douglas County Douglas County is hosting a Flood Outreach on August 6 from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the CVIC Hall, Minden, NV. The event will give the public the opportunity to collect information, provide public input, and view flood damage maps.

“After our staff presentation on the flooding, we wanted to give citizens a place to gather and receive information from as many resources as possible.” said Douglas County Commission Chair, Doug Johnson.

The South Lake Tahoe City Council narrowly approved a new temporary craft show ordinance and increased fee schedule during their meeting on Tuesday.

"Seems like overkill," said Councilwoman JoAnn Conner in her vote against the ordinance. "Its a tremendous amount of work for anyone who wants to come in and do an event and its a tremendous amount of work for staff."

Conner was speaking of the new ordinance which changes the rules for the eight temporary craft shows held annually in the city each year. She and Tom Davis were the two dissenting votes.

SnowGlobe will be able to have amplified music go later this winter in order to stagger the times concert goers leave the venue. With 15,000 people leaving at the same time, concert promoters said this would allow them to more adequately and safely accommodate the people leaving and not create long lines at the buses.

During Tuesday's City Council meeting, the council voted unanimously to allow the concert promoters to have amplified music in the tents only until 11:30 p.m. on December 29 and 30 and until 1:00 a.m. on December 31.

It was another packed house at the South Lake Tahoe City Council's meeting Tuesday, which has been commonplace for all of the meetings and workshops on the contentious subject of vacation home rentals.

For the second year in a row, celebrities taking part in the American Century Golf Championship have visited a Tahoe Douglas Rotary meeting during tournament week.

This year, Hall of Famer Steve Young and former NFL coach Herman "Herm" Edwards joined the local community group for an hour of honest observations and questions and answers.

"It's fun to be with you," Young told the intimate group of Rotarians and their guests. "I feel comfortable here at home in 49er country. If I ever got into trouble I know you guys could hide me."
