Get to know your neighbors at the next U.C. Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center's public presentation "Living With Wildlfe" in Incline Village on June 21 starting with a reception at 5:30 p.m., the talk at 6:00 p.m.

Co-existence is a community effort, learn how to protect your pets, home, and property from all wildlife, mice to bears and mountain lions.

The discussion will be lead by Rebecca Dmytryk of the founder of Human Wildlife Control Association, and Madonna Dunbar, resource conservationist for IVGID.

There will be three presentations at the next El Dorado County Board of Supervisors meeting on June 20 that pertain to fiscal year 2017-18 budget. They are required to approve it by June 30 each year.

"Every year, the County’s Chief Administrator provides a Recommended Budget to the Board of Supervisors for their consideration," said Chief Administrative Officer, Don Ashton. "It is but one step along the path to having an Adopted Budget approved by the Board in September.”

The much anticipated socio-economic study of the impact vacation home rentals (VHR) have on South Lake Tahoe has been released.

Michael Baker International was hired by the City to complete the study and create the report to identify emerging impacts of a growing industry, particularly impacts that may be directly affecting residents and persons who work in the city. They teamed with California State University, Sacramento on the project.

For 67 years the annual re-creation of the historic wagon train rides across the Sierra Nevada has gone through South Lake Tahoe as they made their way to Placerville, but this year they are skipping the City.

The snow is melting, water is flowing, and wildfire fuels are growing. Despite all the moisture, the wildfire threat remains a concern. Preparing your home and community now is more important than ever. June is “Wildfire Awareness Month” in the Lake Tahoe Basin, and members of the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team are continuing last year’s campaign by asking all Tahoe residents and visitors to “Think First to Keep Tahoe Fire Safe”.

During Tuesday's South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting, the City's financial forecast over the next five years will be presented. Included in that will be a review of how the City prepared to meet anticipated increases for South Lake Tahoe programs and services by budgeting conservatively. What could not be budgeted for though was a 100% increase by the California Public Employee Retirement Systems (CalPERS).

With millions of dollars in road repair needs ahead over the next several years, the City of South Lake Tahoe is going to move forward with plans to put a ballot measure before the voters this November.

A half-cent sales tax increase in the city limits would bring in enough funds to start a preventative maintenance program as well as fixing current problems, something Assistant Public Works Director Jim Marino said they've wanted for over ten years.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Tahoe Association of Realtors (STAOR) have invited the public to learn about radon, something that is prevalent in the Lake Tahoe basin due to the high amount of granite in the area. On Wednesday, April 26 from noon to 1:00 p.m., join STAOR in their board room at 2307 James Avenue and listen to a presentation by Jim Gorman of Tahoe Radon.

Jim is a licensed contractor and is certified by the National Radon Proficiency program. He will cover the potential risks this radioactive gas has and how to mitigate them through a safe environment.

Choices for Children hosted its 25th annual Child Care Professionals Appreciation Breakfast featuring Early Childhood Education professors Lisa Daly and Miriam Beloglovsky on Saturday, April 1 at Lake Tahoe Golf Course. Fifty four child care providers came together to enjoy breakfast, raffles generously donated by the South Lake Tahoe Community, and an inspiring presentation on Using Loose Parts (alluring objects that children can move, manipulate, control, and change within their play) to Support Language and Literacy Development.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Caltrans is inviting the public to a meeting on Wednesday, April 12 from 5:45 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the South Lake Tahoe Library to learn more about their upcoming project on two miles of U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe.

A project presentation will start at 6 p.m. Caltrans staff will be available after the presentation to answer questions.

Learn more about the three-mile long shared-use path being created near Sand Harbor State Park on SR-28 during a public information meeting held by the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) on March 30 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chateau in Incline Village.

Get information and updates on the construction which is planned to increase safety, accessibility and add water quality enhancements. NDOT will have schedules for this summer’s construction, and offer virtual reality tours of the future path.

The Friends of the Library are excited to present Dr. Peter Mires will share his program "Mark Twain on Architecture". The presentation consists of what he learned during his research fellowship at the Elmira College Center for Mark Twain Studies. By pairing passages gleaned from Twain’s work with examples of extant buildings, presenter Peter Mires illustrates Mark Twain’s comments, opinions, and tastes—humorous or otherwise—on the subject of American architecture. The City of South Lake Tahoe Planning Commission recently approved a transmission and receiving facility replacement project which will bring a taller cell tower for Sprint to the South Shore.

A 150-foot monopole will be erected adjacent to the current 110-foot lattice tower. Once the taller pole is built on an elevated concrete pad surrounded by new fencing, the old tower will be dismantled.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE – What’s in the future for Social Security and Medicare and how might changes in the Affordable Care Act affect your Medicare coverage?

Those topics will be discussed in a community presentation set for Monday, Feb. 27, at 5:30 p.m. in the South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, 3050 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The featured speaker, Kathleen Newton, will describe the current structure and financing of the Social Security and Medicare systems and provide information about current Congressional legislative initiatives that may affect both programs.

Tahoe's Natural Diversity: Lakes Edge to Summit. Join Sarah Hockensmith of the Tahoe Institute for Natural Science (TINS) as she introduces attendees to the diverse landscapes of the Tahoe region from lake level to the tops of the mountains.

To celebrate the Tahoe's natural history, TINS is hosting the Tahoe Nature Chase during 2017. The presentation will cover how different flower, tree, bird, and mammal species adapt as they go up in elevation and what unique creatures you can find around specific elevations in the area.

Tahoe Rim Trail Geology Talk Have you ever wondered how Lake Tahoe was formed, why there are so many alpine lakes around here, or what all those strange rock formations are? Dave Schnake, a Tahoe Rim Trail Association Board Member and Crew Leader, and trained geologist and geochemist, will give us the low down on Tahoe geology, answer all your hard questions, and maybe even tell you about those strange rocks. This informative presentation is free and open to all. Get there early, seats are limited.

Friday's board meeting of the California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) was delayed almost two hours due to ice on the road near near Zephyr Cove, causing it to close, and those weren't the only icy conditions on the South Shore that day.

The other ice could be felt during the meeting as conflict of interest, ethics, integrity, suspicious actions and lack of transparency were the theme of the day.

All three items on the agenda Friday were placed there amid a stressed relationship between the City of South Lake Tahoe, El Dorado County and Patrick Wright, the Executive Director of the CTC.

The public is invited to see the proposed plans for the new athletic facility for Whittell High School at the Lake Tahoe Visitor's Center on Tuesday, December 12 at 3:30 p.m. during a meeting of the Douglas County School Board.

Lisa Maloff donated $3 million to put in a new football field, six-lane track and new concession building at the high school on Warrior Way in Zephyr Cove, Nev.

Plans created by RO Anderson Engineering will be unveiled during a presentation at the board meeting.

Caltrans is hosting a community meeting on Thursday, December 15 to present design alternatives for a U.S. Highway 50 safety project in the Camino area of El Dorado County, a project that will overlap major highway projects on the Lake Tahoe side of the mountain.

The meeting will take place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Camino Elementary School, 3060 Snows Road, Camino. A project presentation will take place at 5:45 p.m.

According to Tahoe Transportation District at the presentation to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, “‘While the project and its alternatives focus on directing traffic flow around the casino corridor and creating a more walkable and bikeable downtown area, the creation of affordable housing is at the heart of the project,’ said Hasty.”

School physical education at one time was full of jumping jacks, sit ups, pull ups and push ups. Today's physical education at schools has taken on a whole new focus, and Sierra House Elementary in South Lake Tahoe is being honored for what they do on a daily basis.

The school received recognition for their outstanding efforts in creating an active school environment under First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! initiative, Her plan is dedicated to ensuring 60 minutes of physical activity a day is the norm in K-12 schools.

The 2007 Douglas County Transportation Plan did not address any needs in the lake portion of the county, and the newly completed 2016 plan doesn't as well though it discusses a potential gondola from the base of Kingsbury Grade to Heavenly Mountain Resort.

The results of 2016's Douglas County Transportation Master Plan update will be presented during a public meeting on October 20 at 6:00 p.m. in the C.V.I.C. Hall.
Parsons Corporation, the organization which prepared the update, will give the presentation.

The entire community is invited to Lake Tahoe Community College for a talk with author and anthropologist Enrique Martinez Curiel on Monday, Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. in the Aspen Room (library building). This is a free presentation that will be delivered in Spanish.
