The nomination period for the Blue Ribbon Awards is coming to a close. If you haven’t had the opportunity to nominate businesses or individuals deserving of this honor, don’t let it pass. Nominees and winners will receive recognition at the 6th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards Dinner & Ceremony on November 14 at MontBleu.

Despite smoky skies, South Lake Tahoe was still a hot spot this Labor Day Weekend. The 4th Annual Sample the Sierra festival brought in masses of people to taste the unique flavors of the Sierra Nevada. The kickoff Winemakers Dinner at Bumgarner Winery spoiled attendees with a five course meal prepared in the wood fired oven with each course appropriately paired with one of Bumgarner’s fine wines. Saturday’s Sip & Shop at Après Wine Company drew more than 20 people to taste C.G. Di Arie wines and gourmet cheeses.

The Second Annual Fourth of July Parade and Event is sponsored this year by the American Legion Post #795 in South Lake Tahoe. The parade will stage in the parking lot of Big 5 at the Y, and begin traveling East at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 4, 2013. The parade will conclude at the American Legion Post #795 by 11:00 am.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will launch its ongoing scholarship/continuing educational program by offering one qualified member the opportunity to take part in Leadership Lake Tahoe for the 2013-14 term, valued at $900.

TRYP’s Continuing Education: The mission of TahoeChamber.org Leadership Lake Tahoe is to identify and develop current and future leaders through a comprehensive professional development program designed to increase knowledge and awareness of the issues and challenges facing the South Shore of Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will host its March mixer at the new On the Rocks Bar & Grill, March 20 from 7 – 10 p.m. to network, volunteer opportunities and announce TRYP’s upcoming professional development and scholarship program for its members.

The post St. Patty’s Day themed mixer (i.e. wear green) at the recently opened On the Rocks Bar & Grill (located in Round Hill Shopping Center behind Anytime Fitness) will also include hearty appetizers and a free beverage. Admission is complimentary for TRYP members and $5 for non-members.

STATELINE – The two Tahoe Regional Planning Agency board members who have the most issues with the Regional Plan update chose not to listen to the 2½ hours of public testimony on Thursday.

The Blue Ribbon Award nominations have been tallied, with more than 150 nominations received. Golden Bear Events would like to thank the community of South Lake Tahoe for the success of the Inaugural Community Wide 4th of July Parade and Celebration. Keep your neighborhood clean by properly disposing of unwanted trash items in your garage, backyard or neighborhood. Participate in Clean Tahoe’s Annual Community Cleanup Day, Saturday, June 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Drop off furniture, tires and appliances to the South Tahoe Refuse Transfer Station for a discounted price of $5 per truckload. The event is also open to Nevada residents, who can dump their junk for $10 a truckload.

The 2012 Business Expo, brought to you by TahoeChamber and Getaway Reno-Tahoe, is right around the corner! The most productive business event of the year will be on Friday, March 30 at Harrah’s Convention Center from 4-8pm. Over the four years that the awards program has been in existence, community participation and support has increased annually by leaps and bounds.
