More than 175 nominations were received by the Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce for their annual Blue Ribbon Awards. During a recent celebration, awards were given to the following businesses and individuals:

Treat Street 2013

The 11th Annual Treat Street will be held on Halloween night at South Lake Tahoe's Pine Cone Acre Motel. This year's event is sponsored by the Tahoe Area Coordinating Council for the Disabled (TACCD) and the Tahoe Sierra Kiwanis Aktion Club.

All trick or treaters are invited to this free evening of fun and games from 5 to 8 pm. There will be a haunted house, bounce house, mini golf, pie eating contest and other special events. There will also be free hot chocolate, candy and s'mores. There will also be hotdogs for sale for $1.

Blue Ribbon Award Nomination Period Nears End

The nomination period for the Blue Ribbon Awards is coming to a close. If you haven’t had the opportunity to nominate businesses or individuals deserving of this honor, don’t let it pass. Nominees and winners will receive recognition at the 6th Annual Blue Ribbon Awards Dinner & Ceremony on November 14 at MontBleu.

South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge hosts 12th annual Kid's Fishing Derby

The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge 12TH Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby is being held this Sunday, September 22, at Tahoe Paradise’s Lake Baron. The Derby is FREE to all children under the age of 16. The lake is being stocked with thousands of trout just for this event.

Don't worry if you don't have fishing equipment: fishing poles, tackle, power bait, and worms are also provided free of charge, or bring your own if you want.

Success at 4th Annual Sample the Sierra

Despite smoky skies, South Lake Tahoe was still a hot spot this Labor Day Weekend. The 4th Annual Sample the Sierra festival brought in masses of people to taste the unique flavors of the Sierra Nevada. The kickoff Winemakers Dinner at Bumgarner Winery spoiled attendees with a five course meal prepared in the wood fired oven with each course appropriately paired with one of Bumgarner’s fine wines. Saturday’s Sip & Shop at Après Wine Company drew more than 20 people to taste C.G. Di Arie wines and gourmet cheeses.

The Second Annual Fourth of July Parade and Event is sponsored this year by the American Legion Post #795 in South Lake Tahoe. The parade will stage in the parking lot of Big 5 at the Y, and begin traveling East at 10:00 am on Thursday, July 4, 2013. The parade will conclude at the American Legion Post #795 by 11:00 am.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals mixer tonight at Naked Fish

Lake Tahoe Young Professionals Raised $5,000 at Annual Winter White Holiday Party

The holidays will be a little brighter for more than 100 underprivileged local children/teenagers thanks to Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) raising $5,000 at the organization’s 2nd Annual Winter White Holiday Party.

The Young Professions organized a holiday ‘FUN’draiser to benefit Tahoe’s SkiDUCK, (SKi and snowboarding for Disabled and Underprivileged Children and older Kids) at Riva Grill last month which included an evening of live music, raffle prizes, silent auction items, photo booth, games, food and drinks.

South Lake Tahoe Community Cleanup Day

Keep your neighborhood clean by properly disposing of unwanted trash items in your garage, backyard or neighborhood. Participate in Clean Tahoe’s Annual Community Cleanup Day, Saturday, June 2 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Drop off furniture, tires and appliances to the South Tahoe Refuse Transfer Station for a discounted price of $5 per truckload. The event is also open to Nevada residents, who can dump their junk for $10 a truckload.

Code enforcement beefed up to improve South Lake Tahoe appearance

As a result of a citizen survey in which 74 percent of South Lake Tahoe residents responded that the city's overall appearance is “poor or fair” local leaders have recognized a compelling need to restore and improve the visual quality of the community and will step up code enforcement.
