NHP provides more details on Highway 395 Douglas County weekend fatal accidents

The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more information into two deadly vehicle accidents this weekend that resulted in four fatalities on Highway 395 in Douglas County. The accidents happened within a few hours of each other. The first accident, in which three people died, was reported at 11:45 p.m. Saturday night near Leviathan Mine Road on Highway 395. The second single vehicle accident in which one person died, was reported at 4:38 Sunday morning.

2 separate Fatal Accidents resulting in 4 deaths were investigated over weekend on US395 in Douglas County

US395 and Leviathan Mine Road and US395 at Lucerne Street

Saturday night September 15, 2012, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to US395 and Leviathan Mine Road for a head on collision. The preliminary investigation indicates a 2007 Red Nissan Frontier Pickup was traveling northbound on US395 for an unknown reason the Nissan crossed the centerline and entering the southbound travel lane striking a 1995 Red Geo Metro head on. The occupant of the 2007 Nissan a 21-year-old male from Reno sustained fatal injuries. The driver of the Geo Metro a 66-year-old male from Yerington, and an unidentified female passenger both sustained fatal injuries. The female occupant was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.

The road was closed in both directions for approximately 5 hours. The names of all the victims won’t be released until the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Office positively confirms the identity of all three victims and pending notification of next of kin.

Yesterday morning at approximately 0438 hours, Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol were dispatched to US395 and Lucerne Street for a single vehicle collision. The preliminary investigation indicates a White 1991 Jeep Wrangler was traveling north on US395 and attempted to make right hand turn onto Lucerne street. For reasons unknown the driver lost control and overturned. The male driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was partially ejected and trapped under vehicle. He was transported to Carson Tahoe Medical Center where he surrcame to his injuries.

The road was closed for approximately 2 hours. The identity of the male driver will not be released until the Washoe County Medical Examiner’s Officer positively confirms his identity.
