Event Date:
February 15, 2018 - 4:00pm
An upcoming open house for the South Lake Tahoe Warm Room will not only raise awareness and donations for the seasonal homeless shelter, but it will also be a time to honor the faith community for their support during the first three years of the Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless (TCH).
TCH will host the Open House at on February 15, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Warm Room located at 1195 Rufus Allen Boulevard.
“Involvement of local churches and the synagogue have been immeasurable in our efforts since we started as a nonprofit,“ said Dr. Marissa Muscat, Executive Director of TCH. “This is particularly true this season, when the Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church opened their doors to host the Warm Room from Christmas to New Year’s.”
The Coalition is also giving special recognition to faith leaders and organizations who have been deeply involved in the organization. These leaders include Reverend Hillary Bittman from Unity at the Lake, Reverend Robert C. Kelley from Lake Tahoe Community Presbyterian Church, Father Mauricio Hurtado of St.Theresa Catholic Church, and Rabbi Evon Yakar from Temple Bat Yam. These organizations have partnered with Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless to raise funds, collect supplies, provide volunteers, promote awareness, and support operations of the Warm Room.
Additionally, an anonymous donor is offering a matching grant of up to $1000 for the month of February.
“TCH appreciates our donor’s effort to further our mission to partner with the community to provide warm beds, promote awareness, and to encourage self-sufficiency,” states board member Tiffany Hetherton Grimes.
Guests of the Open House are encouraged to “Share the love, and bring a blanket” for those seeking shelter in the Warm Room this season. Donations such as coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, individually wrapped granola bars, toilet paper, Lysol spray, Chlorox wipes, hand warmers, and gift cards to local grocery stores are also much appreciated.
Financial contributions can be made online at http://tahoehomeless.org or mailed to PO Box 13514, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96151.
