A new Board of Directors was elected at the TahoeChamber ’s October 15 board meeting. The board reflects the local business community in that it is comprised of small businesses, professionals, healthcare, gaming and resort representatives. Their diverse business expertise partnered with their enthusiasm ensures that our membership is well served.

If you’re looking for business assistance at an affordable rate, this is the workshop series for you. Mann, Urrutia, Nelson, CPAs & Associates (MUN CPAs), will present this three-part workshop series for business owners. The workshops will take place October 23, October 30, and November 6, at 10am in the TahoeChamber Conference Room.

Celebrate the changing of the seasons at TahoeChamber’s next Business After Hours Mixer (BAHM!) next Thursday, October 17. The fun will begin at 5:30pm at The Lakeview Loft, Tahoe’s newest event venue, located above Dart beverage Center. Dart Beverage will be featuring the most recent addition to their repertoire, Dedrick’s Cheeses. Guests will enjoy wine and aperitif pairings alongside gourmet cheeses, meats, olives, crackers and specialty items from around the world. Events, Ink will use their event planning expertise to set the stage with flowers, décor and more.

The third in a series of Economic Forums will take place on Tuesday, October 22, from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel. The entire community is invited to this free, informative evening presented by TahoeChamber and the Tahoe Prosperity Center.

TahoeChamber and the United States Census Bureau are teaming up to present two workshops focusing on how to navigate through the Census website and the American FactFinder website.

The workshops will be held on September 26 in the TahoeChamber Conference Room at 169 US HWY 50, Stateline, NV. Bring a laptop computer to interactively participate in the workshop. Census Workshop for Business Owners begins at 9am, and Census Workshop for Grant Writers begins at 1pm. Space is limited; register in advance online at www.tahoechamber.org.

Despite smoky skies, South Lake Tahoe was still a hot spot this Labor Day Weekend. The 4th Annual Sample the Sierra festival brought in masses of people to taste the unique flavors of the Sierra Nevada. The kickoff Winemakers Dinner at Bumgarner Winery spoiled attendees with a five course meal prepared in the wood fired oven with each course appropriately paired with one of Bumgarner’s fine wines. Saturday’s Sip & Shop at Après Wine Company drew more than 20 people to taste C.G. Di Arie wines and gourmet cheeses.

It has been 17 years since President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore stood on the shores of Lake Tahoe and issued a challenge. They urged the frequently fractious perspectives in the region to come together in support of the restoration of Lake Tahoe.

TahoeChamber is teaming up with Fox and Hound to present a Happy Hour Ca$h Mob. Cash Mobs encourage locals to spend money locally, and support local businesses to help strengthen the economy. Come out and support this local business on Tuesday, August 13th at 5:30pm.

The next Cash Mob Lake Tahoe is right around the corner. TahoeChamber started the Cash Mob trend in South Lake Tahoe almost a year ago as a way to infuse money back into our local economy one business at a time.

Beach Hut Deli has been serving up delicious sandwiches in South Lake Tahoe for five years and is celebrating their success with a ribbon cutting and anniversary party.

TahoeChamber invites you to celebrate this milestone on Thursday, May 30 at noon. The ribbon cutting celebration will be immediately followed by a member lunch, giving chamber members the chance to network over great food in a casual and relaxed atmosphere.

Tahoe Regional Young Professionals will launch its ongoing scholarship/continuing educational program by offering one qualified member the opportunity to take part in Leadership Lake Tahoe for the 2013-14 term, valued at $900.

TahoeChamber has partnered with the CONNECT Community Education program at Lake Tahoe Community College to offer a certified QuickBooks workshop series designed to save you money and time. This three-part series, taught by Nationally Certified Expert QuickBooks Instructor Christa Peterson, will help you learn to use QuickBooks properly and with confidence.

TahoeChamber’s new monthly series, “Tech Tuesday” covers the hottest trends in technology. From smart phones to social media, each month features a different guest speaker and an exciting new topic.

The series takes place the first Tuesday of the month, from 8-9:30am in the TahoeChamber Conference Room.

These workshops are free for TahoeChamber members and $15 for prospective members.

With dozens of local business lined up to show their stuff, TahoeChamber’s annual Business Expo is the premier event of its kind at South Shore Lake Tahoe. And it is right around the corner with a wide open invitation to the 2013 Business EXPO — “The South Shore EXPOsed” — set for March 22 from 4:30-8:30 p.m. in the Convention Center at Harrah’s Tahoe.

The new and updated TahoeChamber website for South Shore Lake Tahoe will be the focus of the next Tech Tuesday talk. The event is March 5, from 8-9:30am in the TahoeChamber Conference Room, 169 U.S. Highway 50

The new site offers great opportunities for members to promote their business with enhanced business listings, banner ads, job postings, a market space similar to Craigslist, and a great community events calendar. The workshop is free for chamber members and $15 for prospective members.

In the spirit of the TED talks that sparked a wildfire of communal knowledge and immediate action around "ideas worth spreading," the Tahoe Prosperity Center and TahoeChamber are holding a second economic forum March 5.

Business, government, education, transportation, recreation, and healthcare leaders will be sharing their plans, ideas and projects that are focused on economic revitalization on the South Shore. This forum is all about "connecting the dots" between projects that are moving Tahoe toward prosperity.

On Feb. 20, from 4-5:30pm, Constant Contact representatives will be going over numerous ways to “Supercharge Your Facebook Marketing.”

The South Lake Tahoe City Council made appointments to various Boards and Commissions for 2013 at Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Tom Davis will serve on the following boards: California Tahoe Conservancy, City Selection Committee, TahoeChamber.org, Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, and South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce.

Mayor Pro Tem Hal Cole will serve on El Dorado County LAFCO, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, Abandoned Vehicle Abatement JPA, and South Tahoe Redevelopment Successor Agency boards.

All are invited to a ribbon cutting and book signing to celebrate the centers years of success and community service, and a newly published book. Ray Goodenough and his daughter Kathy Rem recently co-authored a book entitled “Parallel Journeys.”

After 33 years of separation, the two were reunited and in this book they compare stories and realize what an incredible parallel journey they have undergone.
