Victim in Sunday's motorcycle crash in South Lake Tahoe dies

The woman riding on the back of the motorcycle involved in a crash in South Lake Tahoe on July 5 has died as a result of her injuries according to the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

The woman, who's age and identity has not been released, died Monday at Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno after being airlifted there after the 8:26 p.m. accident.

City takes first steps to get out of the ambulance business

South Lake Tahoe Fire Chief Jeff Meston made a presentation Tuesday, asking for an alteration to the Cal Tahoe JPA agreement for City provided ambulance services.

Meston wants the City to remain a part of the JPA, but hand over ambulance duties to Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD).

Head on collision closes down Kingsbury Grade Friday afternoon

The Nevada Highway Patrol says injuries were minor after a reported head-on collision on Highway 207 Friday, July 3.

A call came in to dispatch at 2:56 p.m. that two cars collided on Kingsbury Grade. The road was closed for 1.5 hours as the accident was cleaned up, creating a large backup.

All vehicles were towed away and the injured did not require an ambulance.

The reports aren't final as of yet and no other details are available at this time.

SLTPD update on officer involved shooting

The investigation is continuing into the officer involved shooting of 22-year-old Kris Jackson in South Lake Tahoe.

As reported, the young man was fatally shot by a South Lake Tahoe Police Officer on Monday, June 15 at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

One dead after officer involved shooting in South Lake Tahoe

One man died early Monday morning after being shot by a South Lake Tahoe Police officer.

Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a call at 2:40 a.m. at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn on Highway 50. The caller said they heard the sounds of a woman screaming and crying.

About ten minutes after officers arrived, a man in his 20s was shot in the torso.

Hikers injured at Horsetail Falls and Cascade Falls

Two different backcountry hikers needed to be rescued by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team on Monday, June 8.

The first incident was at 12:43 p.m. when an adult male hiker fell at Cascade Falls, resulting in traumatic injuries. With the assistance of ground personnel from Lake Valley Fire Department, USFS and Cal Fire, rescuers were able to provide care and get the hiker hoisted out on a California Highway Patrol helicopter. The CHP helicopter transferred the hiker to a CALSTAR medical air ambulance, and then transported to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

Teen killed in Fernley head on collision

A 19-year old Silver Springs teen was killed Sunday after the car she was driving was hit by another near Fernley High School.

At approximately 12:05 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol Troopers were called to the scene of a two vehicle head-on collision that occurred on US50 Alternate near Lyon County mile marker 11.

Cal-Tahoe JPA working with El Dorado County on funding needs

El Dorado County receives about $10 million annually to fund ambulance services on both the west and east slope of the county. This money comes from property taxes, assessments, special taxes and from ambulance billing. Since the area is so spread out, ambulance services are divided into two County Service Areas (CSAs), CSA-3 and CSA-7. CSA-3 covers the county portion of Lake Tahoe as well as the northern portion of Alpine County. Both CSAs work under a contract with El Dorado County.

The Lake Valley Fire Protection District is one of two members of the California Tahoe Emergency Services Operations Authority (JPA). The JPA has a contract with the County of El Dorado to provide Advanced Life Support Ambulance Services to the California side of the Lake Tahoe South Shore as well as a portion of Alpine County. Also on the agenda will be discussion about the Tahoe Valley Area Plan, a presentation about the raising of fees for stormwater treatment inspections to cover the cost of mandated programs, discussion on the CalTahoe JPA (ambulance service on the South Shore) and review the pay of the City Treasurer.

Lake Tahoe woman injured in Cave Rock accident

A 33-year old Zephyr Cove woman was injured in a Wednesday morning accident near Cave Rock.

According to the Nevada Highway Patrol, Jocelyn Hernandez Mata was driving a Chrysler Sebring convertible eastbound on Hwy 50 through the tunnel at a speed too fast for conditions. She lost control on the wet and icy road, went off the roadway edge and struck a rock embankment. Mata's car then overturned and came to rest on its right side.

She was transported to the Renown by a Tahoe Douglas Fire ambulance with non-life threatening injuries.

The accident occurred at approximately 7:00 a.m.

NHP update on Incline Village New Year's Day fatal crash

Hug Soto-Barrios has been identified as the victim in the New Year's Day fatal accident on the Mt. Rose Hwy in Incline Village, NV. The 40-year old was a passenger in a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo driven by 34-year old Manuel Mejia-Verduzco.

Arrest made in deadly Incline Village accident

A New Year's Day head-on collision on Mt. Rose Highway left one person dead, two sent to Renown Hospital by helicopter with major injuries and one taken by ambulance with serious injuries. The accident happened when a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo crossed over the center line and struck a 2003 Jeep Liberty. All three occupants of the Liberty were taken to the Reno hospital.

The driver of the Isuzu left the scene on foot after the accident which occurred just after 6 p.m. Witnesses said he was bleeding and looked injured.

A domestic argument in South Lake Tahoe Monday night lead to a woman getting into her car, driving over large boulders, through a building and coming to rest against a tree.

South Lake Tahoe Police, Fire, Paramedics and El Dorado County Sheriffs responded to a 911 call reporting that a car went through the local Jack in the Box. When responders arrived they found a car partially inside a building on the corner of Sussex and Brockway Avenues, across the street from the restaurant.

A large airplane has just crashed with hazardous cargo on board at the Tahoe Valley airport.

Premonition? No. It's a planned emergency drill that will take place on Monday, August 25.

County Asks for Community Input on Mental Health Services Act Plan for 2014/15

Studies show that an average of 4.6% of a population are in need of services to treat a serious mental illness at any given time. That number doubles in a population where people live below 200% of the poverty level (an annual income of $23,340 for 1 person, $47,700 for a family of 4 for example).

With the current population of El Dorado County at approximately 181,000, that means anywhere between 8,329 and 16,114 people are in need of Mental Health Services.

Highway 50 Car Accident Claims Life of Dayton Teenager

An accident on Tuesday between a car and a big rig on Highway 50 near Dayton, NV has claimed the life of 18 year old David Arroyo Lamas.

Angela Swanson Announces Run for El Dorado County Board of Supervisors

South Lake Tahoe Councilwoman Angela Swanson has declared her candidacy for El Dorado County Supervisor District 5. "There is no better time to jump in," said Swanson of her announcement. Kingsbury Grade Crash Sends 4 to Hospital

11-4-13 update 12 pm: The Nevada Highway Patrol has released more information on Friday's 2 car accident on Kingsbury Grade. The occupants of the Yaris were the driver Dora Aranda, 27 of Azusa, CA, Christopher Ashlock, 23 of San Diego, CA and Melissa Dominguez, 28 of Rialto, CA. Zephyr Cove resident Donna Janaczek, 59, was the driver of the Subaru which was hit by Aranda as she apparently tried to over correct her car's drifting over the right roadway edge, causing her to cross the center line.

With thousands of motorcyclists expected for Street Vibrations there is extra caution urged on public roadways. As of noon today there have been 3 accidents involving bikers on the road in Lake Tahoe and Carson City, resulting in 1 death and 4 hospitalizations.

Two people were hospitalized after a crash shortly before 10 a.m. at North Carson Street and Medical Parkway. A man was flown by Care Flight to Renown hospital; the other person was taken by ambulance to Renown.

NHP: Carson City man dies from injuries in Highway 50 hit and run at Stateline

A 31-year-old Carson City man hit by a vehicle that left the scene of the accident last month along Highway 50 near Lake Tahoe at Stateline has died from his injuries, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports. Cody J. Dobson died on Friday, Aug. 23 from injuries in the early morning accident, said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen.

On the morning of Aug. 10, NHP troopers were dispatched to a hit-and-run crash involving a pedestrian who was struck just east of the casino corridor near Lake Parkway in Douglas County, said Allen.

South Lake Tahoe man suspected of DUI in crash that injured mother and two children

A 39-year-old South Lake Tahoe man faces a felony DUI charge after a head-on vehicle crash Tuesday that injured a mother and two children in town visiting, according to South Lake Tahoe police.

Dara Siev was arrested for felony DUI and booked into the custody of the El Dorado County Jail in South Lake Tahoe. The crash was reported at 4:45 p.m. in the 2700 block of Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Blue Lake Avenue. The injuries sustained to the mother and children ages 4 and 8 were reported to be not life-threatening, South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Brian Williams said.

Arrest made in early morning stabbing death in South Lake Tahoe

South Lake Tahoe police have arrested a man they believe stabbed a 57-year-old family member to death early Wednesday morning on Wildwood Avenue.

Sean-Paul Andrew MacIntire, 32, of South Lake Tahoe faces first degree murder charges in the stabbing death of Shirley Gordon, said South Lake Tahoe Police Lt. Brian Williams.

A 31-year-old man remains in critical condition Monday after being struck by a vehicle that sped away in the Stateline area of Lake Tahoe on Highway 50 early Saturday morning, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

Pedestrian critically injured in hit and run along Highway 50 in Stateline

A 31-year-old Carson City man was critically injured early Saturday morning at Lake Tahoe after being hit by a Dodge pickup that sped away on Highway 50 and Lake Parkway in Stateline, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

This hit and run was report 3:13 a.m. The 31-year-old Carson City man was walking on the road just east of the MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa when he was hit. It is possible the man may have been struck by more than one vehicle, said Trooper Chuck Allen.

Bicyclist runs red light, crashes into skateboarder

On Wednesday, July 17 at around 8:30 p.m. South Lake Tahoe Police officers responded to the intersection of US Highway 50 with Heavenly Village Way to investigate an injury traffic collision.

Steven Magelssen, 20, of South Lake Tahoe, was riding his bicycle southbound on US Highway 50 in the center left turn lane. He was approaching a red traffic signal at Heavenly Village Way. Pablo Bobadilla, 23, of South Lake Tahoe, was riding his skateboard, and in the company of other pedestrians, while attempting to cross Highway 50 in a marked crosswalk.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Department Receives Technology Innovation Award

The South Lake Tahoe Fire Department received a Technology Innovation Award by iPCR, the Electronic Patient Care Reporting System for Fire and Ambulance Services, at Tuesday's City Council meeting.

This award has only been given to five agencies in 20 years. It is for the “2013 Technology Innovation Award” and was given to SLTFD to recognize the exemplary work in implementing a technologically advanced patient care system that is fully electronic.

Head-on crash near Zephyr Cove sends three to hospital

A head on crash on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe Wednesday morning sent three to the hospital, one via Care Flight, the Nevada Highway Patrol reports.

NHP troopers continue to investigate why two vehicles collided on US Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove in Douglas County earlier today. The accident took place approximately a half-mile west of Zephyr Cove at around 6:50 am Wednesday morning.

Lodi woman identified in Zephyr Cove fatal crash

The Nevada Highway Patrol has identified a Lodi, Calif., woman as the victim of a two-vehicle fatal crash that happened Sunday on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe.

Reyna Vizcaara, 24, died at the scene of the crash, reported at 2:55 p.m., said NHP Trooper Chuck Allen. Four others were injured and taken to area hospitals, including three Carson City residents. Two remain hospitalized.

NHP: One dead in Zephyr Cove crash, several injured

UPDATE: One person died in a vehicle crash in Zephyr Cove across from the Tahoe Douglas Fire Station Sunday afternoon, confirmed Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Barbara Stapleton.

At least three others were injured, according to NHP dispatchers. Both lanes of Highway 50 were closed.

One victim was taken by ground ambulance to Carson City where they were transported by Calstar. The crash was reported to NHP at 2:55 p.m. at 875 Highway 50. The vehicles involved were blocking both lanes, according to the dispatcher.

Inmate dies after collapsing at El Dorado County Jail in Placerville

An El Dorado County Jail inmate died late Friday after collapsing in an outside recreation yard at the Placerville detention facility, authorities said.

James Thomas Clark, 53, of West Sacramento, was given CPR by jail officers and then taken to Marshall Hospital where he died, said Lt. Tim Becker of the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office.

There were no obvious signs of foul play and the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office and the DA's office are investigating.

South Lake Tahoe man dies in pedestrian crash involving suspected DUI driver

A 51-year-old South Lake Tahoe man died Friday after an alleged drunk driver with a suspended license for DUI hit him with his vehicle on Lake Tahoe Boulevard. The victim was found unconscious and taken to Barton Memorial Hospital where he died. His name is being withheld pending notification of family.
Gregory Stearns, 49, was arrested and faces a DUI charge that involved death and driving under a suspended license for a previous DUI where he was convicted.

NHP issues nearly 12,000 cell phone-related distracted driving traffic citations

Troopers from the Nevada Highway Patrol issued nearly 12,000 traffic citations to motorists observed talking, texting or reading non-voice communication while operating a motor vehicle on Nevada’s highways in 2012. Thirty of the offenders last year received their second citation for the same offense with 25 of those witnessed on their phone for a third time and cited once more.

Woman hit by SUV on Highway 50 near Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe

A woman was hit by a SUV near the crosswalk across from McP's Pub on Highway 50 near Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe late Saturday night. A CareFlight air ambulance was called and the woman was to be taken to Renown Medical Center in Reno.
At the time paramedics arrived to the accident the woman was breathing but unresponsive, unconscious, with blood coming from her neck and head area. The accident was reported at 11:45 p.m.

Motorcycle crashes on Highway 50 and Fremont in South Lake Tahoe; riders taken to Barton Memorial Hospital

A motorcycle crash in South Lake Tahoe on Saturday night involving two riders was reported at 7:33 p.m. A CareFlight air ambulance was ordered from Gardnerville but was canceled.
Initial reports from an off-duty paramedic and a nurse was that a female rider was "unresponsive" and has facial lacerations. Paramedics at the scene said that the rider with the most immediate needs was to be transferred to Barton Memorial Hospital via ground ambulance. The other rider was also transferred by ground ambulance to Barton.

Fatal motorcycle accidents at Highway 50 and Mount Rose Highway near Lake Tahoe ties up homebound holiday traffic

UPDATE: 5:18PM: A female passenger on a motorcycle died this Labor Day and the driver was seriously injured on Highway 50 near Glenbrook, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. In a separate accident on Mount Rose Highway a motorcyclist has also died.
The Highway 50 accident, reported at 3:13 Monday afternoon near Logan Creek on the East Shore of Lake Tahoe, shut down traffic in the eastbound lane. Traffic, as of 5 p.m. continued to be diverted to the westbound lane, said NHP Trooper Barbara Stapleton.

News agencies report 5 dead in fiery South Lake Tahoe airplane crash; aircraft registered to Fresno man (VIDEO)

UPDATE 3:27PM: KOLO Reno Channel 8 reports the brother of the registered owner of the Piper that crashed in South Lake Tahoe Saturday night says all five people aboard died. Javier de la Mora says his brother, Francisco de la Mora, of Fresno was in the airplane when it crashed. Francisco's wife and daughter and two other people were on board as well. UPDATE 2:56PM: The City of South Lake Tahoe issued the following news release and photos this afternoon:

A small plane crashed shortly after takeoff on Saturday, August 25th at 9:48 pm from Lake Tahoe Airport. The crash ignited a fire in the meadow just past the airport off of Winnemucca Avenue. The fire burned approximately one acre and took an hour and a half to extinguish.
El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department reports that the plane had been heard by witnesses to have apparent engine problems, and was seen to dip downward into the ground while attempting a turn.
According to Federal Aviation Administration, there were multiple victims and no survivors of the crash. The names of victims are not being released until notification of families is confirmed.
“Our hearts go out to the families of those that perished in this tragic accident. Thanks to the quick and cooperative efforts by multiple agencies; the fire caused by this crash was put out quickly,” said Mayor Claire Fortier.
Earlier in the day, the 23rd Annual Lake in the Sky Air Show was held at Lake Tahoe Airport. This plane was not affiliated with the air show in any way.
The location of the plane crash is within El Dorado County limits and the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department is the lead agency of this investigation. FAA and National Transportation Safety Board officials arrived on site today to perform an investigation and to identify the cause of the crash.

UPDATE 1:46PM: There are multiple victims to Saturday night's plane crash in South Lake Tahoe, confirmed El Dorado Sheriff's Office Lt. Pete Van Arnum. Investigators were processing the wreckage to confirm how many victims and their identities. Investigators do not believe the victims to be locals from the South Lake Tahoe area, he said. No information concerning the identity of the victims, or the plane will be released until positive confirmation has been made, he said. Investigators from the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board are assisting with the investigation.

UPDATE 6:55AM: A small airplane crashed in the Barton Meadows area in South Lake Tahoe sparking a wildland fire on Saturday night. Presumably there are no survivors. The crash was reported at 9:48 p.m. after the plane took off from Lake Tahoe Airport, said El Dorado County Sheriff's Lt. Pete Van Arnum early Sunday morning. Witnesses reported the plane was experiencing engine trouble and was seen moving downward before it crashed into flames, he said.

Paramedics respond to motorcycle accident at Highway 50 and Lodi in South Lake Tahoe

UPDATE 1:55PM: The westbound lane of Highway 50 has been reopened following a motorcycle accident that sent two to the hospital. Traffic is reportedly backed up from Stateline to the Y this afternoon. The accident was reported at 12:17 this afternoon. One victim was transported by air ambulance. A second victim was taken to Barton Memorial Hospital, according to Lake Tahoe News.

South Lake Tahoe paramedics have responded to Highway 50 and Lodi this afternoon following a motorcycle accident. The victim in the accident will apparently be transported by Calstar air ambulance to Renown Medical Center in Reno. The accident was reported at 12:17 as a collision with a vehicle. Traffic along Highway 50 is being rerouted. The victim was to be transported by ground ambulance to a helicopter landing site near Sierra Boulevard. It is unknown about the condition of the driver of the vehicle. Unconfirmed reports are that the driver was being taken to the South Lake Tahoe police station.

UPDATE 1:39PM: South Lake Tahoe Police have issued a press release regarding Tuesday's hit and run accident. The victim, a 38-year-old man, remains in an intensive care unit at Renown Medical Center in Reno. South Lake Tahoe Police have commended citizens for their part in locating the suspect.

Man dies after being hit by vehicle on Lake Tahoe Boulevard near Pioneer Trail

UPDATE 3PM: South Lake Tahoe authorities say a 49-year-old man dressed in dark clothes was struck and killed by a van after attempting to cross Lake Tahoe Boulevard outside of the crosswalk.
More details have been released by South Lake Tahoe Police Department regarding Tuesday night's fatal accident that shut down Lake Tahoe Boulevard / Highway 50 from Pioneer Trail to Midway for about three hours. The driver of the van that hit the pedestrian has been cleared of any wrong-doing, according to Sgt. Brad Williams. The investigation is continuing and the identity of the pedestrian is being withheld pending notification of family members.

Update: 4 Motorists Killed, 3 Injured in Three-Vehicle Crash on US 50 in Lyon County

The names of the four people killed in a fiery crash Tuesday on Highway 50 near Dayton in Lyon County may be released on Wednesday, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. The accident happened shortly before 9:00 a.m. east of Dayton and involved two pickups and a one-ton truck each towing a trailer with two transporting cattle. The four who died and the three injured are all believed to be from Northern Nevada.

Motorcycle accident reported at Cave Rock, air ambulance responds

A motorcycle accident with injuries has tied up traffic on Highway 50 near Cave Rock this afternoon, according to Douglas County fire and paramedics on the scene.
