There may be negatives to the popular event that draws in 20,000 people a day, there are also many positives to be celebrated.

There is more to the three-day festival, SnowGlobe, than music and crowds, a side of the event many aren't aware of.

October 7, 2017 - 12:00pm

For 26 years it was known as the "Tahoe Toy Drive" and motorcycles full of toys for local children would move through South Lake Tahoe in an effort to stock the toy shelves at Christmas Cheer.

The name has changed but the mission is the same.

The South Tahoe Association of Realtors is now sponsoring the event with the American Legion Post 795 and Ladies Auxiliary.

Mt. Tallac High students learn to give back to the community

The students at Mt. Tallac High School in South Lake Tahoe have learned how to give back to others in their community, and not in the normal food and money drive way.

What started last year with a rap song to raise funds for Christmas Cheer and now morphed into an annual project where more students can be involved in making a community-wide impact.

"As a school we chose people and organizations to give to," said school Principal Holly Greenough. "Since most of our students don't have the means to donate food and money we showed alternative ways they can give back."

LTVA and STR thanks the community for donations

A generous response from the South Lake Tahoe community is going to help make the holidays a little brighter for those in need.

For the fourth year the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority and South Tahoe Refuse & Recycling teamed with a “drive and drop” at the LTVA’s California Visitors Center, and curbside collection on regular pick-up days. All collections will benefit Christmas Cheer All Year.

Once again we were overwhelmed by the generous response from our South Lake Tahoe community.

Thank you to all who participated.

Mt. Tallac students create rap song to help Christmas Cheer

The South Lake Tahoe community is aware of Christmas Cheer, and how they serve those in the area by providing food and other necessities all year long. What the community may not be aware of is how students at Mt. Tallac High School came to help the non-profit agency this Christmas season.
