SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - October is Women Owned Business Month and nine of the businesses owned by women in South Lake Tahoe are celebrating with a bingo game and prizes.

From October 16 to November 15, shop at these businesses and enter to win prizes. First place is a $50 gift card from each of the nine women-owned businesses, value $450, and second place is a $25 gift card each, a value of $225.

Howl-O-Ween Party at Earthwise Pet Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - EarthWise Pet Lake Tahoe will be holding its inaugural Howl-O-Ween Party on Saturday, October 31 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

It's a party for the pets with a photo booth, pet costume party (at 2:30 p.m.), raffle baskets, along with free samples of products and sales at the store.

The event will take place on the lawn outside EarthWise at The Crossing at Tahoe Valley, 2060 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe. Masks are required on humans and social distancing is recommended.

South Lake Tahoe City Council candidate leaves the race

There are now nine South Lake Tahoe residents vying for one of two open spots on City Council.

Last week, Luca Genasci made an announcement on social media that he would be discontinuing his campaign. Citing a growing workload with a new business opening, Genasci said did not have "ample time" to dedicate to his new fiancé, family, friends, businesses and local politics.

Genasci owns Lake Tahoe Aleworx with two locations at Stateline and the Y, and a new bar, the Cocktail Corner, next door to the Y location in The Crossing at Tahoe Valley.

Cuppa Tahoe brings books, coffee and community to South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When Sandra Santane set out to build a "feel good" place where family moments could be created as well as a place where time could be spent for "me time," Cuppa Tahoe evolved.

"I wanted to create magic and had this idea for a long time," explained Sandra. She grew up in Holland where there were places where people would meet, talk and enjoy, and wanted that in South Lake Tahoe. She also grew up with a love of books that has stayed with her as she lived in Tunisia and now the United States. Books were both her inspiration and her escape.

South Lake Tahoe City Council does not approve eviction protection action for businesses

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - During their special meeting Wednesday, the South Lake Tahoe City Council discussed three topics related to the current COVID-19 pandemic crisis.

One of their action items was to vote on an urgency ordinance that would establish a moratorium on commercial evictions due to COVID-19. During their emergency meeting on March 20, 2020, the Council unanimously supported a provision to put a temporary moratorium on residential evictions.

Lake Tahoe Education Foundation re-imagining their AleWorx fundraiser

One arrested after high-speed pursuit from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A high-speed pursuit from South Lake Tahoe to Placerville, at times reaching 100 mph, has landed one man in jail.

A detective from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) happened to be in the parking lot of The Crossing Thursday afternoon when he observed what looked to be a theft in progress at the Big 5 Sporting Goods store.

Tahoe Bike Love rides launch in South Lake Tahoe

“We decided to team up and produce this ride series to meet the increasing requests by locals and visitors for a regularly scheduled ride they can count on,” said Bike Tahoe President Ty Polastri.

RAH Hair Studio moves to new location at The Crossing

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For ten years the RAH Hair Studio has operated at a location near Sierra Boulevard, but as they enter their second decade, they have moved to a beautiful new space at The Crossing in South Lake Tahoe.

Is was not a normal April Fool's Day when Rah's owner Angela Zajic opened the doors on her new place for the first time. In the works for five months, the new space in The Crossing next to Verde Mexican Rotisserie has been turned into something that looks like it's straight from the pages of Etsy and Pinterest.

SLT Cancer League's annual See's Candy Sale at the Crossing

The South Lake Tahoe Cancer League is launching their biggest fundraiswer of the year, the annual See's Candy Sale, on Friday, November 16, 2018.

New pedestrian beacon lights on US50 in Marla Bay area of Lake Tahoe

It an attempt to make the crossing of US 50 in the Marla Bay area safer, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) has completed a $294,000 safety project.

Autumn Carnival for all ages in South Lake Tahoe

Blue Ribbon Award nominees announced

The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) is holding their annual Blue Ribbon Awards dinner on Thursday, November 9 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Harrah's Lake Tahoe Ballroom. City's business plan presented; Public encouraged to review

Every two years a new business plan is presented to the South Lake Tahoe City Council, outlining goals, the vision and strategic priorities. This is done after each election.

In February, City staff, Council and community members got together for a two-day strategic planning session, and the results that came out of that were put into the 2017/18 South Lake Tahoe Business Plan.

El Dorado Savings on Al Tahoe Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe is expanding into the space next door that was once home to Sierra Pizza. The bank will now be able to have a safety deposit box area. There is no plan for more teller windows.

Speaking of Sierra Pizza, they have moved into the empty restaurant between Pinnacle Real Estate and Tahoe Toys and Treasures.

Rosie "Mrs. Rosie" Borges 7/10/29 - 12/24/16

Rosie Borges, known by most in South Lake Tahoe as “Mrs. Rosie” passed away in her sleep on December 24, 2016. She was 87-years-old.

Greenbelt plans for South Lake Tahoe unveiled, public asked to comment

Now that the Tahoe Valley Area Plan has been approved for the Y area of South Lake Tahoe, plans are moving forward to create a greenbelt area that would improve connectivity, create more biking, walking and play space, as well as implementing stormwater improvements to keep Tahoe blue, and the community green.

Conservancy looks into selling 4 parcels that could benefit the Tahoe Valley Area Plan

When one sees a vacant lot in the Lake Tahoe Basin with a California Tahoe Conservancy (CTC) sign placed on a tree within its borders, it normally that means the parcel will remain vacant.

And in most cases, that is true.

In the basin, CTC owns 4,780 parcels of land totaling 6,400 acres, many of those parcels are about 1/4 acre in size. In the 1980s and 1990s, most of these smaller lots were purchased due to their being deemed environmentally sensitive. If a lot, or a portion of a lot, was once considered to be sensitive, they are permanently protected and cannot be built upon.

Large 4th of July parade expected in South Lake Tahoe

The City of South Lake Tahoe will be hosting this year's 4th of July parade, and a large turnout is expected for both the parade and the post-celebration activities at the American Legion.

Community members, clubs, groups are all signing up to take part in the parade on Monday, July 4, starting at 10:00 a.m. So far, there are 50 entries and 150 walkers participating.

The route goes from the Crossing at the "Y" to Al Tahoe Blvd, at the Rite-Aid parking lot so travelers can expect travel delays on the road during the duration of the parade.

The Crossing in South Lake Tahoe starts renovations

"The Factory Stores at the Y" are being transformed into "The Crossing at Tahoe Valley," with demolition crews on site dismantling parts of the building to accommodate a new design as they prepare for new tenants.

Plan unveiled for old Factory Stores at the Y location

"The Factory Stores at the Y" will soon be transformed into "The Crossing at Tahoe Valley" if the plan is approved by the City of South Lake Tahoe. In January, 2015, The Sutter Capital Group of Sacramento announced they had purchased the property after it fell into bankruptcy.

Project in Incline Village to keep pedestrians safe

Ten million dollars of Nevada state highway funds will be spent on pedestrian enhancements in the Las Vegas, Reno and Lake Tahoe areas over the next year.

The first $300,000 will be spent on a Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) project that began Tuesday that is relocating a crosswalk and adding safety signs on Highway 28 in the Incline Village.
