Families of all ages are invited to the South Lake Tahoe Library Winter Extravaganza on Saturday, December 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Creation stations will be set up with fun, easy to make, seasonal decorations suitable for all ages. Santa and Mrs. Claus are scheduled to drop by, so bring a camera, your holiday spirit and celebrate with your local library.

It all started when she joined her mom on Saturday runs while in elementary school. By third grade she was hooked and by fifth grade she found she loved to compete in track meets. In middle school she loved the "Pumpkin Runs" and through high school she consistently made it regional and state meets.

Today, South Tahoe High Senior Ally Sullivan signed a letter of intent to attend St. Mary's College to run on their Division 1 track team. Joined by parents Dan and Deni Sullivan, and brothers Josh and Matt, Ally signed in front of coaches and friends.

To volunteer to help others is a selfless act that is both humbling and uplifting. Thanks to Vail’s generous EpicPromise grant, Kirkwood Mountain Resort employees had the opportunity to volunteer at Bread & Broth’s November 6 Monday Meal through B&B’s ‘Adopt A Day of Nourishment' program. Kirkwood Security Officers Mark DeSacia, Rick Hofheins and Charlie Noury and David McCullers, Security Manager, all volunteered their time and effort to make a difference in the lives of those attending the meal served at Grace Hall.

“It is a great feeling to know I work for a company that enjoys giving back to the community,” commented Chris Barbar. Barbar is the assistant manager for Ticket Sales at Heavenly Mountain Resort and on October 23, through Heavenly’s Adopt A Day of Nourishment sponsorship, Chris spent another Monday helping Bread & Broth volunteers feed a tasty and filling spaghetti dinner to the evening’s 95 dinner guests.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Blizzardfest 2017 returns to the South Shore on Saturday, November 4 at noon at the Tahoe Beach Retreat's 3rd annual Pray For Snow Party. Even if it is snowing, join in the fun to encourage another strong winter.

All of the fun will be under the tent on the beach until 10:00 p.m. Not only is the public invited, but so are four-legged family members.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Thank you to our community of supporters for making the 2017 Homebrew for the Homeless a successful fundraiser! The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless event at the DDRC Ranch was supported by over 60 individual and business sponsors. A special cheers to major donors: Hops Envy, Reliapro Painters, darke. Marketing, Tahoe Mountain Lab, Law Office of Scott Weavil, The Heatherton Agency, Barmhouse, Tahoe Best Friends, Tiffany Hetherton Grimes of Chase International, and South Tahoe Association of Realtors. This year’s event raised a record amount of donations.

It’s that time again. The Battle Born state celebrates its admission to the United States on the last Friday of October, with the annual Nevada Day parade on Saturday. New this year is a ‘Passport to Downtown’ event on Friday. Also new this year is the one-night-only curated art show, Capital Collage, on Friday night featuring over 20 diverse artists and organizations.

Fun for the whole family will be at Lake Tahoe Aleworx Autumn Carnival in South Lake Tahoe on Sunday, October 22 from noon to 8:00 p.m.

A full list of activities for all: The Loft will be there with their Magic Fusion show, a Barista Throwdown, Tahoe Fire Dancers, human and dog costume contests, face painting, pizza eating contest, carnival games, Paint n' Sip, photo booth and much more. Prizes will be given for the contests.

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is holding their Haunted House at the Douglas County Fairgrounds for three weekends: Oct. 13/14, Oct. 20/21 and Oct. 27/18. From 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. the haunted house is "not so scary" and perfect for younger children. Then, make room for "the main event," for those that wanted to be scared from 6:00 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Children under 18 are $5.00, and adults are $10.00. Get an all night pass for just $15.00.

The final radio show of the year for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office will coincide with a K-9 fundraiser on Friday, October 6 with Jon Sanchez on KOH780AM.

Five of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office K-9s will be on hand during the live show and event from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sanchez Ranch Meats located at 1734 Hwy 395 in Minden, Nev.

The DCSO K-9 unit is made up of Shadow, Drago, Bak, Bane and Beny.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) will be holding their October Mixer on October 11 at Lake Tahoe Pizza Co from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Join them for a fun evening of networking over some delicious pizza! One free drink (beer or house wine) is included along with pizza.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Fall Fish Festival will take place at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center on Saturday and Sunday, October 7 – 8, 2017. The Taylor Creek Visitor Center is located on SR Highway 89, three miles north of South Lake Tahoe, California. Hosted by the U.S. Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit in collaboration with the Tahoe Heritage Foundation, the festival is an opportunity to learn about the variety of fish species that live in Lake Tahoe and its streams including the federally threatened Lahontan cutthroat trout.

The Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) would like to thank all the community members who came out last Wednesday for the Modern Family Premiere in support of local families! With a fun filled evening of raffle prizes, popcorn, and good company, 150 locals raised almost $6,000 for local families. These funds will go into the 2018 grant cycle of the TWCF and will be open for any eligible non-profit to apply for.

The 5th annual SAVE-A-PET Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, September 23 at the American Legion in South Lake Tahoe from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.

There will be food, live music, a raffle fun. 100 percent of all monies raised will go directly to help pets in a medical emergency situation.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. - Helicopters, fire trucks, K-9s and demonstrations are just a few of the activities planned for 23rd annual Fire Fest on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. outside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe.

Admission is free and the event is a great opportunity for families to have fun while learning about safety and conservation.

A new social media craze made its way across the country this summer.

Celebrate the migration of the Kokanee salmon during the annual Fall Fish Fest at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center in South Lake Tahoe October 7-8.

From 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. each day walk the famous Rainbow Trail as nature is celebrated with the dramatic and colorful spawning behaviors of the salmon. Get a close-up look at this natural display is available in Taylor Creek and the Stream Profile Chamber.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – Revelers will have double the number of drinks to choose from at the eighth annual Cocktails for a Cause fundraiser on Wednesday, October 4. This is because each mixologist will be crafting both a mocktail and a cocktail.

“Cocktails for a Cause is a lively event that helps support health and wellness programs in our community,” said Jenny Taylor, the event coordinator. “This year, we are offering non-alcoholic options to encourage our community members who choose not to drink to join in on the fun and support an important cause.”

“Here at Liberty, one of our core values is community. We are all part of this community and enjoy participating by giving back whenever we can.” This was the collaborative comment given by the sponsor crew members from the Adopt A Day of Nourishment host Liberty Utilities at their sponsorship dinner on August 21. Representing Liberty Utilities were team members Theresa Faegre, James Martin and Kelsey Zieba who had a fun time serving the Solar Eclipse themed dinner proved by Bread & Broth’s creative and talented cooks.

Enjoy a day of historic fun as the Sierra State Parks Foundation holds a good, old fashioned hoedown at Donner Memorial State Park on Sunday, August 27 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

This family friendly free event with costumed docents, special state park interpreters with educational, hands-on activities, food vendors, music and a historical walk. A perfect place for the whole family to not only say goodbye to summer, but to learn about the decorated past of the Truckee-Donner area.

11:00 a.m.: Guided History walk: The Stevens-Townsend Party

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to a fun, hands-on restoration day on September 23 at 8:00 a.m. Participants in the Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day will help restore the Angora Burn area by improving trails and thinning brush to protect young trees. Together, the watershed habitats that surround Lake Tahoe can be protected.

At 12:30, all volunteers are invited to South Tahoe Brewing Co. for a celebration of 20 years of volunteer restoration with the League to Save Lake Tahoe. They will provide lunch, refreshments and a prize.

The Tahoe Coalition for the Homeless is holding their annual fundraiser, Homebrew for the Homeless, on Saturday, September 23 at the DDRC in Minden, Nevada from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.

This is a family-friendly event, presented in collaboration with Hops Envy, and will feature live music, a homebrew beer competition, Poker Run, chili cook-off as well as horseback rides, face painting lawn games and bounce house for children. There will also be food and non-alcoholic beverages. There will also be a silent auction.

It's a Hootenanny, complete with music by the Redneck Quartet, local beer tasting, food and fun, all put on by the South Lake Tahoe Rotary club on Saturday, August 19 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Golf Course.

Tickets or those over 21 are $45 if bought ahead of the event, $50 at the door and include unlimited beer tasting and food. Kids 6 and under are free, and designated drivers and those ages 7-20 are $20.

Besides food, drink and dancing there will be face painting and family games.
