Victims identified in fatal Kingsbury Grade crash
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/06/2017 - 3:01pmCarson City residents have been identified as the victim's in Tuesday night's fatal collision on Kingsbury Grade.
On July 4 at 9:26 p.m., Nevada Highway Patrol troopers responded to the scene of a head-on collision on SR207/Kingsbury about two miles up from Foothill Road. Upon arrival they found a crash involving a 2013 Ford F150 and 2012 Scion XB.
The NHP preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Scion was driving eastbound and allowed his vehicle to cross over the double yellow lines into the path of the Ford, causing a head-on collision.
Highway 50 down to one lane due to accident near Round Hill

Please slow down and use caution.
According to the NHP there are no injuries.

Four teens uninjured in Pioneer Trail crash
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/05/2017 - 8:24amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Four teenagers were in a car that crashed on Pioneer Trail Tuesday night after the fireworks show in South Lake Tahoe. Even though the car they were in suffered major damage, no one was injured.
For unknown reasons, the 17-year-old male driver allowed his 2006 Volkswagon Jetta to leave the road and collide with a guardrail as his was driving southbound just north of Jicarilla.
California Highway Patrol officer Ruth Loehr told South Tahoe Now that the passengers were all female, ages 17, 15 and 14.
There is no other information available at this time.
Fatal crash on Kingsbury Grade; Road closed
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/04/2017 - 9:35pm11:10 p.m. update: The Nevada Highway Patrol Fatal Team is at the scene of tonight's fatal crash on Kingsbury Grade between Tramway Drive and Foothill. The road is closed on the valley side and all traffic trying to head over from the lake side is being turned around at Tramway.

Kingsbury Grade is closed at this hour between Tramway Drive and the Carson Valley as emergency crews work to clear an earlier fatal crash that claimed the lives of two people.
The crash happened about two miles up from the valley floor.
New fire now burning near Spanish Springs
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/04/2017 - 8:24pmCrews with Bureau of Land Management, Nevada Department of Forestry and Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District have responded to a new fire burning near Spanish Springs and the Pyramid Highway. Dubbed the Winnemucca Ranch Fire, flames have consumed 1,500 acres since starting at 6:25 p.m. Tuesday.
Both ground and air resources are on scene.
At least 11 homes are threatened, according to Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District.
Ironwood Road is being evacuated, according to the Washoe County Sheriff.
Firefighters contain 4th of July fire on Highway 50 at Spooner
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/04/2017 - 12:22pmCarson City Fire Department, East Fork Fire and Tahoe Douglas Fire responded to a brush fire on the valley side of Highway 50 on Spooner.
The fire was reported at around 12:20 p.m. and said to be around 1-2 miles up Highway 50 on the north side. Smoke and flames are visible at the time.
By 1:07 p.m., firefighters at the wildfire reported the blaze was contained with responding units on scene building a hose line around the fire and mopping up. The cause is under investigation.
Highway 50 at the area of the fire has been closed but is reported open at this time.
Hundreds join in search for missing 5-year-old; Found safe after night in the woods
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2017 - 10:22pmA 5-year-old boy was found safe and in good spirits Sunday morning after spending the night alone in El Dorado County.
On Saturday, two boys, ages 4 and 5 were camping and riding quads with their father when the dad's motorcycle broke down. The kids did not notice dad was no longer with them.
The 4-year-old was located immediately but the search for the older boy went into the night. Over 100 volunteers from 16 counties joined in the search on off-road highway vehicles, air support, K9 Teams and ground searchers and worked all night to locate the child.
Public invited to walk, run and ride on new highway section in Carson City

The community is invited to take part in a free fun walk, run and ride celebrating the upcoming opening of the last leg of the Interstate 580 Carson City Freeway, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) announced.
While the freeway isn't scheduled to open to vehicles until August, NDOT is going to have an opening ceremony to pedestrians, runners and cyclists on Saturday, July 22 at 9:00 a.m. Participants can arrive at any time from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. for a self-paced experience on the new freeway.
Fire closes I-80 in Sparks
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2017 - 6:33pmInterstate 80 is closed in both directions from Patrick to Wadsworth due to wild fires and poor visibility according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Westbound traffic is being diverted at Derby Dam and eastbound traffic is being diverted at Mustang.
The Earthstone Fire started at 1:30 p.m. Monday and it is now at 3,000 acres according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center.
Golden Eagle Regional Park in Sparks is closed while crews work on the brush fire near Belmar/Earthstone in Sparks.
Foothill Fire burning near Genoa Lakes Golf
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/03/2017 - 4:42pm7:15 p.m. update: Fire crews have halted the progress of the Foothill Fire in Douglas County near Genoa Lakes Golf Resort. Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center has updated the amount of acreage burned to 25 acres.
Winds in the area are still an issue and firefighters remain on the scene.

A grass and brush fire in Douglas County has grown to 85 acres according to Sierra Front Interagency Dispatch Center. Known as the Foothill Fire, it is burning in the area near the new Genoa Lakes ranch course off of Jacks Valley Road in Douglas County.

21-year-old Roberto Palomar-Espinoza was killed after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Fremont Street and Johnson Lane. Nevada Highway Patrol and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at 5:00 a.m. and found the victim in the street with significant physical trauma.

Fatal pedestrian hit and run in Douglas County

At 5:00 a.m. July 1, deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded to the area of Fremont Street and Johnson Lane for a possible injured person in the roadway.
Upon arrival, deputies found a male in the roadway with significant physical trauma from being hit by a vehicle. He succumbed to those injuries.

Caltrans turns off crosswalk light at Camp Richardson through holiday

The light on State Highway 89 at Camp Richardson was turned off on June 27 and will remain off through the upcoming weekend and July 4th holiday.
Cave Rock project wins national transportation award

The award from the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials recognizes the project as the best transportation project under $25 million in the western states for enhancing community and quality of life. The award recognizes the project for enhancing traffic safety and mobility, as well as involving community stakeholders in the project.
Visitor from Thailand identified as victim in Lake Tahoe head-on crash

On June 26 at approximately 4:39 p.m., a black 2015 VW Passat driven by a 40-year-old female resident of Carson City was traveling eastbound on the highway at a curve. She crossed over the double yellow line and into westbound traffic where she hit a black 2017 Chrysler minivan head-on.

Bridge painting work to affect Donner Lake interchange until August

This section of road will be closed until August 18.
Ramps to and from I-80 will remain open, allowing motorists to access the next available exit.

Possession and or discharge of fireworks is unlawful and will not be tolerated. Persons found in violation of the fireworks ordinance face criminal penalties, including a fine of up to $1,000.00 and/or confinement in the county jail for a period of up to six months.
Fatal crash at Cave Rock claims life of one person

Lane restrictions were in place as emergency crews worked at the scene which was at the curve near the Hidden Woods neighborhood.

First responders and resilient community honored on 10th anniversary of Angora Fire

Park's grandfather David bought 571 acres of pastureland at Lake Tahoe in 1896. The property included the historic Friday's Station where the family operated it as a way station and butcher's shop for those crossing the terrain from 19818-20.

Bicycle accident at Emerald Bay sends one to hospital

Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval signed dozens of new bills last week, including two that affect improvement districts on the Douglas County side of Lake Tahoe, and both will become law on July 1, 2017.
SB 471 abolishes the Douglas County Sewer District No. 1, which was established in 1953, and converts it into the Douglas County Lake Tahoe Sewer Authority and changes its governing structure. The Authority will furnish residents with an adequate system of sewage collection and treatment and disposal of wastewater.

Navigating South Lake Tahoe during road construction

A lack of left-hand turns has drivers confused as to where to go. Some people are still making left-hand turns where prohibited, thus jamming up traffic and making navigation dangerous.

Douglas County man arrested in Carson City on suspicion of Nevada County murder
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/09/2017 - 11:45amA 27-year-old Douglas County man, a suspect in a California homicide investigation, was arrested Thursday night during a joint agency operation that happened at an Airport Road apartment complex, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The arrest happened at around 6:40 p.m. and involved the Carson City Sheriff’s Office SWAT team and California law enforcement agencies.

Highway 50 over Echo Summit reopens with one-way controlled traffic
Submitted by paula on Fri, 06/09/2017 - 6:44amCaltrans has reopened Highway 50 between Meyers and Placerville with one-way controlled traffic at Alder Creek where a mudslide closed it last night. They originally said all traffic would be rerouted to other highways through Friday evening but crews were able to get it open.
The slope is still not stable and they are working on getting the mud flow stopped.

Highway 50 at Kyburz closed due to mudslide

Woman rescued from Upper Truckee River in South Lake Tahoe

The Washoe County Coroner's Office will likely release the cause of death Tuesday or Wednesday.

A 50-year-old woman from the Carson Valley nearly drowned in South Lake Tahoe Wednesday after she fell off her paddle board and got caught underwater in the cold and swift Upper Truckee River.
Three fires burning south of Lake Tahoe

One outbuilding burned. 4 engines will remain on the fire overnight. No containment has been listed at this time. Jurisdiction is East Fork Fire Protection District.
NDOT to start slope stabilization project in Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/06/2017 - 3:20pmBoulders along Highway 50 by Cave Rock will soon be removed as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) begins to reinforce a destabilized slope along the roadway at Logan Creek on Lake Tahoe's East Shore.
Work will begin June 7.
Numerous boulders the size of large vehicles rolled down the slope several times during the past winter, bringing NDOT to add a concrete barrier and reduce the traffic to one northbound land. Luckily, no vehicles have been involved in the slides, and no injuries reported.
DCSO Deputy Duffy selected as Grand Marshall for Carson Valley Days parade
Submitted by paula on Tue, 06/06/2017 - 2:31pmDouglas County Sheriff's Deputy Teresa Duffy will lead the 107th annual Carson Valley Days parade as the Grand Marshall. The theme of the parade and festival is "A Salute to First Responders."
The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club is organizing the event which runs from June 9 to June 11. The club wanted to raise awareness, celebrate, honor and, most importantly, say thank you to the first responders of Douglas County, those who protect the community on a daily basis.
Live at Lakeview returns for sixth season in South Lake Tahoe

Starting June 22 and every Thursday until August 31, the free concerts will be at Lakeview Commons at the corner of Lakeview Avenue and Highway 50 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Toyota and the City of South Lake Tahoe are presenting the series with On Course Events.
Two deadly crashes on Northern Nevada highways
Submitted by paula on Mon, 06/05/2017 - 6:54pmOn US50 approximately five miles east of Dayton, a Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP) Trooper was involved in a fatal crash at 2:40 p.m. on Monday, June 5. One person was confirmed deceased on scene. The Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper was transported via CareFlight to Renown with serious, but not life-threatening injuries.
The deceased victim of the crash is an adult male, according to a witness on-scene who performed CPR on him before paramedics arrived. His name has not been released. Family is being notified.
