COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. -El Dorado County health officials say another 13 residents have tested positive for COVID-19 since yesterday. Of those, three are in each the Lake Tahoe Region and Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, five in El Dorado Hills, one each in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz and Greater Placerville. In this group of new cases are nine aged 18-49, three aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

Another 205 people were tested for the coronavirus and 192 negative tests results were received.

COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there have been an additional eight cases of COVID-19 in the county since yesterday. None of those are in the Lake Tahoe area, six were in El Dorado Hills, and one each in Greater Placerville and South County.

Of the new cases, five are aged 18-49, and two aged 50-64.

An additional 180 tests were administered and 172 tests came back negative.

There have been six assumed recoveries with no confirmed patients in the hospital. There is one suspected case in the ICU.

To date, two county residents have died.

Information sought on severely neglected dog abandoned in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County Animal Services is looking for information from the public about a Cocker Spaniel dog that was abandoned on the side of the road in South Lake Tahoe. The severely neglected dog was found on August 22, 2020, by a Good Samaritan who brought the dog to the El Dorado County Animal Services Shelter in Meyers.

The female Cocker Spaniel is about eight-years-old with tan fur. She wasn’t wearing a collar or identification tag and was found lying on the side of the road on Spruce Avenue by Bijou School in South Lake Tahoe.

Roundabout protest to be focused on getting county leaders to act on traffic concerns

MEYERS, Calif. - Another protest is planned at the US50 roundabout in Meyers on Friday, September 4, just as thousands of tourists flock to Lake Tahoe in a traditional weekend wrap-up of summer.

COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe area counties

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there have been another seven cases of COVID-19 since Tuesday with two of those in the Lake Tahoe region. Two were in El Dorado Hills, two in Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz, and one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue. Of those cases, two are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and four aged 65 or older.

An additional 117 people were tested. Another 110 negative tests results were returned and there were 12 assumed recoveries since yesterday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Little did Nikki and Justin Foskett know that their planned grand opening of Bare Roots Artisan Coffee Roasting Company would come on the day the pandemic shut everything down.

They didn't despair though, and spent the down time roasting beans, expanding their menu and putting everything they sell online for all to enjoy. Opening a new business is always tough, exciting and stressful, but COVID-19 added a whole lot of unknowns to the picture.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials say there have been another six cases of COVID-19 since Monday and none of them are from the Lake Tahoe region. Three were in El Dorado Hills, two in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue and one in Greater Placerville. Of those cases, four are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

An additional 190 people were tested. Another 184 negative tests results were returned and there were 10 assumed recoveries over the weekend.

There are no current hospitalizations and there are no suspected cases in the hospital.

Lake Tahoe, Sierra and El Dorado County roadwork August 30 - September 5

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The following is a list of the long term and short term projects the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) has scheduled for the week around Lake Tahoe, in the Sierra and El Dorado County.

Most traffic-interfering work will be restricted from 6:00 a.m. Friday, Sept. 4 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8 due to the Labor Day holiday.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - El Dorado County health officials report another nine positive cases of COVID-19 today. One of those is in the Lake Tahoe area, one in Cameron Park/Shingle Springs/Rescue, one in Diamond Springs/El Dorado, one in Placerville and five in El Dorado Hills. Of these, one is under the age of 18, six are aged 18-49, one aged 50-64 and one aged 65 or older.

Another 325 tests were administered. 316 negative test results were returned.

There are an assumed 11 more recoveries, bringing that total to 830.

No change to the hospitalization numbers with one hospitalized in the ICU. There is one suspected case in the hospital. There have been two deaths to date of county residents.

Group rallies to ask for respect from tourists when visiting Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe is the vacation destination for millions of people annually, but recent behaviors of many of the tourists have the residents on edge. Trash is being left behind on beaches, trails and picnic areas, overflowing trash containers are shown daily on social media pages, stores are packed and roads are crowded, all during a pandemic while travel orders are still in place for the California.

With international travel at a standstill many are keeping their vacationing during the coronavirus to locations near their homes, and Lake Tahoe is one of those spots.

An additional 350 people have been tested for coronavirus. There were 342 negative test results received today and 24 assumed recoveries. The current assume positive case load is 157 in the county.

Another 559 tests were administered. The county was notified of 529 negative results and 17 assumed recoveries. There are 173 assumed active cases.

Construction temporarily stopped on South Lake Tahoe Greenway trail due to material delay

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Work had been underway on two phases of the 3.86-mile long South Tahoe Greenway Shared-Use Trail but activity has come to a temporary halt due to material issues.

COVID-19 resulted in delayed delivery of materials for the precast concrete boardwalk system needed on the trail. The Houston, Texas concrete plant contracted for the project has been directly impacted.

Never Forget, Never Forgotten - Kaleb James Martin Curtzwiler 1/27/82 - 8/9/10

Kaleb James Martin Curtzwiler died August 9, 2010. He was 28.

Mr. Curtzwiler was born Jan. 27, 1982, at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. The 2000 South Tahoe High School graduate was an avid soccer player.

Although he did not ski competitively, it was a sport he participated in with his family and one that he excelled at.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Issues with the state's CalREDIE system is currently impacting the data in California, including El Dorado County. Not all of the negative results are listed so the county positivity rate is showing above the state's eight percent threshold, which is inaccurate.

Additionally, instructions about what residents should do after they've been tested are being emailed to those who tested at the Lake Tahoe Community College site due to delays.

Meyers traffic meeting to discuss possible right turn restrictions this winter

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. Calif. - Traffic leaving South lake Tahoe through Meyers on Sundays and holidays through the winter can be a nightmare. Map apps lead visitors onto roads that are steeper and not plowed as much as US50, thus creating hazards and clogged roads. Tow trucks are backlogged hours to assist getting the stuck vehicles off Apache, Mandan, North Upper Truckee and Sawmill Roads.

Due to these jammed roads, residents in the area cannot to get to work or the grocery store, and a Traffic Advisory Committee was formed to seek solutions.

Marjorie Louise Daum ~ 1938 - 2020

Longtime South Lake Tahoe area resident Marjorie Louise Daum has entered the kingdom of God.

The well known local businesswoman was 82.

Marjorie was as a very kind and sweet person, always greeting everyone with a cheerful smile and a hug. Her strong courage, humility, honesty and faith guided her successful path through life.

She was born on February 24, 1938 and moved with her family to South Lake Tahoe in 1947 where they lived at the Al Tahoe Pines Resort. The family's marine service station was where the current Globin's building and Pick 6 are currently located.

The county was notified 124 test results came back as negative, and there have been 16 likely recoveries.

Three are under the age of 18, 14 aged 18-49, five aged 50-64 and two 65 and over.

This brings the total number of cases since the pandemic started to 579, 209 of those most likely still active.
