The man who came forward after his picture was circulated as being a suspect in a sexual assault case has been cleared by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD).

Two more cars stolen in South Lake Tahoe

As reported last week, there were four stolen cars in South Lake Tahoe between September 10 and 15.

A 21-year-old transient Tarra Sheffield was arrested for stealing one of those cars. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department said she had evidence to other stolen cars when arrested.

Anonymous tip leads South Lake Tahoe Police to person of interest in assault case

On Thursday, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) released photos of a person of interest in a sexual assault case they were investigating. By the afternoon, they received an anonymous tip suggesting the identity of the man, and soon after, the unidentified man's lawyer contacted SLTPD to arrange a meeting.

The attorney indicated his client is willing to cooperate with this investigation. So far, there is not enough evidence to warrant an arrest and the case is still under investigation.

Neighbors want South Lake Tahoe property gone

Last week, South Tahoe Now carried a story about changes on the South Shore, businesses who were moving, starting or renovating.

Since that time, information has surfaced about one of the subjects, the Tahoe Pines Lodge.

New owner Darren Cobrae said he wanted to remodel the aging motel which has become home to long term renters. His plans for the property included adding two restaurants and retail space.

The aftermath of Proposition 47: Property crime up in South Lake Tahoe

In November, 2014, 60% of the voters in California approved Proposition 47, the "Safe Neighborhoods and School Act."

Since then, South Lake Tahoe and other cities across the state are seeing a big increase in crime. Prop. 47 reduced the penalties for certain theft and drug crimes in California. Several crimes that were once a felony because a misdemeanor overnight.

High tech anti-theft dots to help South Lake Tahoe Police

With an increase in the number of bicycle thefts and other property crimes in South Lake Tahoe, a new high tech device to help the fight on crime is now being introduced by the police department.

The new technology is called Anti-Theft Dots. This DNA for property crime will assist the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) in their efforts to combat theft in the community. Property crime is the number one crime statistic in the nation according to the Department of Justice.

South Lake Tahoe News Briefs

MontBleu Resort on the South Shore is undergoing extensive exterior remodeling at the same time they are cleaning house.

Their ten-year-old sign came down on Tuesday and will be replaced. The driveway and hotel entrance area all being revamped.

Last week, the resort let go four directors including the Food & Beverage Director. A call was made to the property's new General Manager Tim Tretton to confirm, but his office said "no comment." Tretton has been on the job since August 4.

National Thank A Police Officer Day to be recognized in South Lake Tahoe

In light of recent ambushes and assignations of police officers across the country, some South Lake Tahoe residents are organizing a local event on National Thank A Police Officer Day September 19.

Organizer Daniella Flatau is trying to create awareness in South Lake Tahoe by showing support for the police officers who protect and serve their community, and to help boost officer morale.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested on charges of arson, domestic violence and assault of police officer

A South Lake Tahoe man is facing a slew of charges after allegedly assaulting his girlfriend after telling her they were going to die, setting his apartment on fire with gasoline, and burning a police officer.

A 911 call came into the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on Wednesday, September 9 at 2:00 p.m. from a woman who said her boyfriend was pouring gasoline inside his apartment after physically assaulting her. As the girlfriend was on the phone with police dispatch she told them the apartment was then on fire.

South Lake Tahoe man accused of sex crimes against disabled child

South Lake Tahoe resident Allan Delisle was arrested on Thursday, August 19 on several sex crime charges.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) took the 69-year-old man into custody after obtaining a warrant. He has been charged with the crimes of lewd and lascivious acts with a child, oral copulation of a child under 16 years old, oral copulation of a child by force, and oral copulation of a victim with a mental disability.

Delisle is currently in the El Dorado County Jail on $1 million bail hold.

South Lake Tahoe K9 officers sworn in during ceremony

The South Lake Tahoe City Council meeting on Tuesday was taken over by the dogs. After Lisa Maloof handed over a check to cover the purchase and care for Ricci, three new canine officers for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were sworn in.

Ricci, a 22-month-old Belgian Malinois from Holland, was joined by Tara, also a Belgian Malinois from Holland, and Quatro, a German Shepherd from Slovakia, as the newest members of SLTPD's K9 team.

Missing Lake Tahoe paddle boarder found in Missouri

The man who gained national attention when he went missing from his paddle board in South Lake Tahoe has turned up in Missouri.

South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) investigators had been working on the case since he disappeared on Wednesday, not knowing if he were dead or alive. The floating paddleboard with GoPro camera was found floating about 1/2 mile off shore by the Timber Cove Marina.

Bay Area deputy drowns while helping kayaker in Lake Tahoe

A deputy from the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office drowned just off the shore of El Dorado Beach in South Lake Tahoe on Thursday as he tried to save a family friend.

Man arrested on suspicion of trying to set house on fire and stealing car

A 36-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was arrested in Carson City, NV Saturday on a California Superior Court warrant charge that alleges attempted arson, use of an incendiary device, vandalism with property damage of more than $950 and vehicle theft.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call at 2:25 p.m. on Friday, August 12 about about a man breaking windows at a neighbor's home, then trying to set his own house on fire after a neighborhood dispute on Lukins Way. The suspect, Derek Ernest Bogard, was not in the area when police arrived.

South Lake Tahoe teen airlifted to Renown after bicycle accident

An 18-year-old male was airlifted to Renown Medical Center on Tuesday afternoon after being hit by a car on Ski Run Blvd.

The teen, who had recently moved to South Lake Tahoe, was riding his bike southbound near Spruce Drive just before 4 p.m. when he made a left hand turn into the path of a northbound car driven by a South Lake Tahoe woman.

The unidentified cyclist hit the front of the car on the driver's side. He was airlifted with undisclosed injuries.

The driver of the car was uninjured and is cooperating with police.

Identities of those involved in deadly motorcycle crash released

All three people involved in the July 6 crash between a motorcycle and truck were from South Lake Tahoe.

At 8:26 p.m. on Sunday, July 5, a Nissan truck driven by 54-year-old Michael Cearley made a left hand from Lake Tahoe Blvd onto Modesto Avenue, right in the path of a motorcyclist and his passenger who were riding westbound on Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Officer identified in South Lake Tahoe shooting

The name of the South Lake Tahoe Police Officer involved in the June 15 shooting of 22-year-old Kris Jackson has been released.

Officer Joshua Klinge was the officer who responded to a 2:40 a.m. call about a woman screaming and crying at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn on Lake Tahoe Blvd. The officer shot Jackson in the torso after feeling threatened according to earlier reports. Jackson died shortly afterwards at Barton Memorial Hospital.

One person airlifted after South Lake Tahoe motorcycle and truck accident

Few details have been released about Sunday evening's accident in South Lake Tahoe that resulted in one person being airlifted to Renown Medical Center in Reno.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a phone call at 8:26 p.m. on Sunday, July 5 about an accident between a motorcycle and pick-up truck near the Sno-Flake Drive In.

A motorcyclist and his passenger were headed west on Lake Tahoe Blvd near the intersection with Modesto Avenue. A Nissan truck was attempting to make a left-hand turn from Highway 50 onto Modesto when he struck the motorcycle.

Lieutenants, Sergeants and the Chief have been at the Stateline area Starbucks each Thursday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m., giving everyone a chance to meet the department's administrative staff and help shape policing efforts in South Lake Tahoe.

There have been a few people who have shown up each week because they knew the SLTPD would be there, others just stop by when they see them sitting at the table.

Juveniles arrested for vandalism of South Lake Tahoe schools

Two juveniles, ages 14 and 15, were arrested for vandalizing South Tahoe High and Mt. Tallac High Schools. The incidents occurred in May and June in the rest rooms at both schools, the STHS football stadium and on the siding of the school.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department says there are more arrests to be made.

At the end of May and beginning of June of this year, kids broke into the rest rooms, started fires with paper towels and toilet paper and destroyed the interiors, tagged the exterior walls of the new wing at the school, and toilet-papered the football stadium.

Standoff at the Tahoe Keys Marina ends with arrest of suspect

More details of Saturday's arrest have been released by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

As the pursuit of a car driven by 35-year-old Cory Pearson of Sacramento and South Lake Tahoe ended at the Tahoe Keys Marina, officers were able to establish a perimeter around his vehicle which had been reported stolen in Lakeland Village. Pearson yelled to officers that he was armed with a gun and threatened to use it if anyone approached. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) SWAT Team and Crisis Response Team were called to assist.

Body cameras not in the near future for South Lake Tahoe Police

In light of the recent officer involved shooting in South Lake Tahoe, the discussion about body cameras being worn by local law enforcement has once again surfaced. While there has been discussion by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), according to Lt. Brian Williams, no decisions have been made.

"A large part [of the wearing of cameras] hinges on the State as there may be regulations coming soon," said Williams. He said they have to watch out for taxpayers dollars and not spend money on a system that might not be allowed by state laws.

Bicycle and pedestrian safety a big concern in South Lake Tahoe

Safety for cyclists and pedestrians is a big concern for the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD), cycling groups and those enjoying these activities.

In the last six years, 12 people have died in South Lake Tahoe while cycling or walking. In that same time, 42 people were injured while riding bikes on the road while 37 pedestrians were hurt.

Teenage vandals targeting South Tahoe and Mt. Tallac High Schools

South Lake Tahoe Police are investigating several recent acts of vandalism and arson at both South Tahoe and Mt. Tallac High Schools. On June 12, 14 and 15, vandals broke into the men's and women's bathrooms at Mt. Tallac High and set fire to towels and other paper items in and around the buildings. In April, vandals did the same thing after prying open the door, causing damage to the interior.

There was graffiti at South Tahoe High on the back side of the building as well.

SLTPD update on officer involved shooting

The investigation is continuing into the officer involved shooting of 22-year-old Kris Jackson in South Lake Tahoe.

As reported, the young man was fatally shot by a South Lake Tahoe Police Officer on Monday, June 15 at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn.

A joint investigation is being conducted by the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Department, El Dorado County District Attorney’s Office and the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.

Victim identified in Monday's officer involved shooting in South Lake Tahoe

Some details have been released about Monday's officer involved shooting at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn in South Lake Tahoe.

Kris Jackson, 22 and from Sacramento, was the young man killed by an unidentified officer from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department in the early morning hours of June 15.

One man died early Monday morning after being shot by a South Lake Tahoe Police officer.

Officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) responded to a call at 2:40 a.m. at the Tahoe Hacienda Inn on Highway 50. The caller said they heard the sounds of a woman screaming and crying.

About ten minutes after officers arrived, a man in his 20s was shot in the torso.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) arrested 30-year-old Manuel Ramos Munoz after he confessed to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a young woman on Thursday, June 11.

Man sought for the beating and assault of a woman in South Lake Tahoe

A woman was violently beat up early Thursday morning in South Lake Tahoe by an unknown man who is still on the loose.

At around 2:00 a.m., the suspect walked up to the area of a motel room on Cedar Avenue, where a group of several friends were socializing in and around the room. No one in this group of friends knew the suspect.

City staff and locals help kick off the Tahoe Bike Challenge

Local cyclists got into the biking mode Monday in South Lake Tahoe at the start of the two week long bike challenge.

Pearl Izumi at the Y hosted the "Ready, Set, Pedal" party with swag bags, food and special discounts. Riders gathered at the store and started on either a 5 mile or a 10 mile loop.

Tahoe Wellness Cooperative and owner's home raided Monday

A large team made up of members from multiple agencies served a search warrant on both the Tahoe Wellness Cooperative and owner Cody Bass's South Lake Tahoe home early Monday morning.

Agents from the Franchise Tax Board (FTB), Board of Equalization, Department of Insurance, South Lake Tahoe Police Department, and El Dorado County Sheriff's Department (EDCSO) were on scene at the co-op according to Tami Grimes, Information Officer with the FTB in Sacramento.

"The contents of the search warrant are sealed," said Grimes.

Man reports robbery by knife point at ATM; Arrested for making false report

A 30-year old South Lake Tahoe man said his "life was boring and stagnant" so he made up being robbed at knife point at an ATM machine on Thursday, May 21.

Police were called to the El Dorado Savings Bank on Al Tahoe Blvd at 5:51 p.m. on Thursday, by a man saying he'd just been robbed. According to the police report, the "victim" said a man approached him as he was making a deposit. The "suspect", described as a white man between 30-34 years old and between 150 and 200 lbs, pulled a knife and asked for the man's wallet. He reported that the robber pulled out a $10 bill and left.

Lockdowns at college, school and hospital in South Lake Tahoe

There were three incidents in South Lake Tahoe on Wednesday that resulted in lockdowns at Lake Tahoe Community College, South Tahoe Middle School (STMS) and Barton Memorial Hospital.

At noon, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call concerning a man carrying a rifle, walking away from the area near Barton Hospital towards the meadow behind Grocery Outlet. They did not locate anyone at that time, but this incident relates to the third one received.

Mental Health Awareness: Law enforcement on front lines with mentally ill

Many times law enforcement officers are the first people a mentally ill person comes in contact with. In South Lake Tahoe, police officers and sheriff's deputies are forced to become front line mental health workers, and since they are on the front lines, Crisis Intervention Training (CIT) is an important part of their job.

El Dorado County received a grant for the Sheriff's Department to receive the training, and, to date, four sergeants and 18 deputies have been trained. While most patrol the west slope, South Lake Tahoe has three CIT officers (two sergeants and one deputy).

South Lake Tahoe Police officers to be honored in ceremony

Not only are eight South Lake Tahoe Police Department employees being honored during a ceremony on Thursday, May 14, two K9s will be officially sworn in.

The annual ceremony is held in conjunction with National Peace Officer’s Memorial Week. This year, the awards will be given during part of the City of South Lake Tahoe's 50th Anniversary celebration.

South Tahoe Public Utility District budget meeting this week

The proposed South Tahoe Public Utility District budget for 2015-16 will be reviewed during a special public budget meeting on May 7, 2015 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The Board of Directors will also be reviewing the ten-year financial and capital improvement plan for the district.

There will be no action taken during the board at this meeting. The proposed budget will be voted on by the Board of Directors at a regular Board Meeting being held on May 21 at 2 p.m. in the District Board Room.

South Lake Tahoe fire causes damage and claims two dogs

It took South Lake Tahoe firefighters just 15 minutes to put out an early morning fire in the Sierra Tract neighborhood that caused one minor injury and claimed the lives of two dogs that lived in the house.

The emergency call came into dispatch at 1:32 a.m. Thursday, April 30. Nine units responded from the South Lake Tahoe, Cal Fire, Lake Valley Fire and Tahoe Douglas Fire departments with a total of 16 personnel. Once the fire was under control, Tahoe Douglas units were released to cover the city while others stayed on scene for over two hours to clean up the scene.

Stolen tip jar turns into arrest of South Lake Tahoe man on multiple charges

South Lake Tahoe resident Johnathan Alberto Lemus, 27, was arrested on Saturday, April 11 on multiple charges including assault with a deadly weapon.

According to police reports, Lemus allegedly stole a tip jar from Tahoe Bowl and left the business located on Fremont Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. The Police Department was called and as they were taking the report the suspect was spotted by a High Sierra Patrol security officer at nearby Inn by the Lake.

First Responder Community Hero Award: Ross Molesworth

Tahoe Douglas Rotary has been a part of the South Shore community since 1962, and, as are the other 1.2 million Rotarians in the world, are bound by a commong purpose, Service Above Self. The club felt it was an ideal fit to recognize police and fire professionals in the community who make sacrifies every day to serve and protect.
During the week, South Tahoe Now will highlight each of this year's winners of the inagural First Responder Community Hero Award.

Car accidents and spinouts come with snow in South Lake Tahoe

4:11 pm 3/1/15 Update from Jeff Munson, CarsonNow.org:

Six people were injured in a weather related head-on crash Saturday morning on Highway 50 near Zephyr Cove, a Nevada Highway Patrol trooper said. One woman remains in serious condition.

The accident was reported at 8:48 a.m. and involved a Toyota Camry, occupied by five people, three males and two females, and a Volvo, driven by a Carson City resident.

According to NHP Trooper Daniel Lopez, the Camry was going eastbound on Highway 50 and crossed over into the westbound lane, striking the Volvo head-on, said Lopez.
