El Dorado County Sheriff John D’Agostini retires after 28 years

D'Agostini is a 4th generation resident of El Dorado County. He was working in construction as a general contractor and raising turkeys on the family ranch for Foster Farms before turning to a career in law enforcement. They raised 50,000 turkeys a year but found it tough to compete with the large turkey farms that put out numbers closer to one million of the birds.

The next results will be released on Monday, November 21 at 5 p.m. Voter turnout in the county overall was 64.70 percent of the 138,537 registered voters.

Other crashes are caused by the lack of safe turns both off and onto the highway, leading to the stretch of highway being more dangerous than other Nevada highways.

TRPA opens annual Lake Tahoe mooring lottery on December 1
Submitted by paula on Wed, 11/16/2022 - 11:44amLake Tahoe, Calif./Nev. — Entries for new Lake Tahoe moorings (buoys, boat lifts, etc.) can be submitted by lakefront owners to the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) starting on December 1, 2022. Annually there is a mooring lottery and the Lake Tahoe Shoreline Plan. This annual lottery will continue until all allocations allowed under the plan are distributed.
The plan, approved in 2018, places a cap on the total number of moorings and piers allowed in the Tahoe Region and established this annual lottery system to allocate new moorings.
South Lake Tahoe's new recreation center project to be delayed one year after council rejects bids

A public bid opening for the second phase of the project was held on October 24, 2022. The City's Public Works department, in coordination with their pre-construction team SierraCon/CORE had estimated the cost of this phase would be approximately $52M.
Laine wins El Dorado County supervisor seat, City Council looking clearer as most votes counted

With the trend of votes since the November 8 election, results should not change but the final count on Friday, November 18 will make everything clear.
Brooke Laine is the new supervisor for El Dorado County District V. Any new votes would not change the results as Laine is ahead of Kenny Curtzwiler by 2,111 votes.

Carson City man in jail after allegedly stabbing Douglas County man multiple times

On November 14, 2022, at approximately 10:45 a.m., deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) were called to the Indian Hills home for a report of a stabbing. When the deputies arrived they found a male victim with multiple stab wounds to the torso. He was transported via Care Flight to Renown Medical center for treatment. His current condition is unknown.
560 Christmas tree permits sold in first day in South Lake Tahoe

One woman dies, two children injured in early morning collision south of Lake Tahoe

At approximately 4:25 a.m. on November 14, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) was notified of the solo vehicle collision. CHP units arrived and found a white 2019 Hyundai sedan had collided with a small boulder. It was determined the driver of the sedan had been traveling southbound on SR-89, approaching SR-88 (Picketts Junction).
Restoration of Upper Truckee Marsh completed in South Lake Tahoe

After years of damage caused by development and moves made by ranchers, the river lost its natural meandering flow and has been just one straight channel of water. Now, the work of the Conservancy has completed the steps needed to re-create the wetland with new channels, the filling in of a sailing lagoon, and new willows and other vegetation planted.

Longer range guidance still points toward a wetter pattern returning around Nov 21-23, leading into the Thanksgiving Holiday just as travelers hit the roads. The hints of an Atmospheric River will be answered soon.

The Sierra-at-Tahoe Ski Resort announced this weekend they will be ready for the 2022/23 season and reopening on December 3 (weather and Mother Nature permitting). The resort's 75th anniversary season was supposed to be last year, but with only being able to open for a day of celebration, the true party begins in just a few weeks.

Post Commander Tom Millham was master of ceremonies which had music from singers Davin Kangas and Jill Scharlow, and bagpiper Maria Delallo, speeches, a POW/MIA ceremony, and a Vietnam Veteran pinning from Daughters of the American Legion's local chapter.
NDOT completes 2nd year of work on SR431 and SR28 - announces next season's projects

They will begin the third season next spring.
During the 2022 construction season, crews made the following highway improvements:
- Removed and repaved approximately four inches of aging roadway asphalt on six miles of Mt. Rose highway near the summit

10,000 more ballots tabulated in El Dorado County

There remain approximately 16,000 ballots to be counted. The final count is expected on Tuesday, November 15 at 5 p.m. as the elections office is closed for Veterans Day. So far, 51.92 percent of the county's 138,537 registered voters have had their ballots processed and tabulated.
As of Thursday, November 10 at 5 p.m.:
El Dorado County Supervisor District V - 11,323, or 57.62%% of registered voters counted

Mother Nature delivered the goods and the resorts are ready earlier than expected. The cold weather and snow have allowed for natural snow to accumulate along with their snowmaking teams.
This will be both Northstar's and Kirkwood's 50th anniversary season.
Kirkwood is opening 20 days earlier than expected, and Heavenly and Northstar are a week before what was previously announced.

The bus schedules are posted on the district website, page 2 of the list of schedules.
Washoe county schools are also on a 2-hour delay.
Tahoe Truckee School District is on a regular schedule.
Douglas County School District is not announcing any closures or delays.

Car crashes into boulder on US50 at Echo Summit
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/07/2022 - 10:02pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A car crashed into a large boulder on US50 Sunday evening, causing some injuries and damage to the vehicle.
At approximately 6 p.m. on Sunday, November 6, a Honda Accord was traveling west on the highway near the area of several rockslides earlier in the year. A boulder almost four feet in width had fallen onto the roadway and the driver of the Honda could not miss it.
Airbags were deployed and the three people in the vehicle had some injuries that were tended to by Lake Valley Fire paramedics. The damaged vehicle was towed away.
A Veteran’s Musical Tribute and Fireside Chat are both canceled due to expected storm

Also postponed due to weather is the Lake Tahoe Historical Society's Tuesday evening Fireside Chat at Camp Richardson. With heavy snow expected the speaker's drive from Reno would be challenging and the organizers did not want the public to be unsafe in traveling to the event. A new date will be released shortly.

Schools will be opening two hours later than normal times. Busses will be operating two hours later than their normal schedule. Schools will release at the regularly scheduled time. Tahoe Truckee School District schools will be open on a regular schedule. However, due to the stormy winds and visibility issues, there is the possibility of school buses being delayed.
Time changes brings us Drowsy Driving Prevention Week

The CHP has partnered with the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), and the National Sleep Foundation in recognizing November 6-12 as Drowsy Driving Prevention Week to raise awareness about the importance of a good night's rest before driving.
Storm was delayed but still on its way to Lake Tahoe - should be measuring snow in feet

It is reaching Lake Tahoe tonight with increasing winds into early Monday morning across the Sierra and western Nevada. Expect periods of heavy snowfall in the Sierra beginning this evening through Monday with light rain/snow for Western Nevada valleys. A second wave of heavy snow is expected across the Sierra on Tuesday which is when valleys will see their best potential to pick up a few inches of snowfall. Much colder temperatures will prevail behind the front and into the start of the weekend.

Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/05/2022 - 11:26pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - After exhausting all leads, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in locating a suspect in an August burglary.
On August 10, 2022, at about at about 9:51 p.m., an unknown male suspect was captured on surveillance video entering a fenced area of a construction site in the North Sunridge area. The suspect leaves the area and returned on August 11 at approximately 12:30 a.m. and steals the battery from a backhoe at the construction site.

South Lake Tahoe mural release party celebrates art in the community
Submitted by paula on Sat, 11/05/2022 - 8:58pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The first art project approved and partially funded by the new South Lake Tahoe Arts, Culture, and Tourism Commission was celebrated on Halloween with the artists, commissioners, members from the Tahoe Art League, and the community.
On the back of the Blue Dog Pizza building at the corner of Lake Tahoe Blvd., and Sierra Blvd., the mural was painted by local artist Annie Walker and is titled 'Sierra Juniper.'
Walker has been a working artist for 13 years, coming from New Orleans via San Francisco.
With end of fire season, burn ban lifted around Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 11/04/2022 - 10:07pmAfter the first snow of the season, the summer-long burn suspension was formally lifted by CAL FIRE Nevada-Yuba-Placer Unit and CAL FIRE Amador-El Dorado Unit. CAL FIRE’s lifting of restrictions indicates the end of our local fire season. Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District also ended its summer restrictions.
Since outdoor wood fires are not allowed in the South Lake Tahoe city limits, no outside wood fires (including backyard fire pits) are allowed but charcoal fires are now allowed.
Don't forget to turn the clocks back this weekend!

"Fall back" at 2 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 6, California residents will have to set their clocks back by one hour.

A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for the Lake Tahoe Basin from noon on Sunday, November 6 until Wednesday, November 9 at 4 a.m.
