Arrest made after woman admits to setting Truckee fire
Submitted by paula on Thu, 07/07/2022 - 12:01pmUPDATE 5:45PM - As a result of a coordinated investigation involving Truckee Police and Cal Fire personnel, the cause of this afternoon's wildland fire was determined to have been human-caused. A female suspect was taken into custody after evidence was obtained indicating she was responsible for setting several spot fires which resulted in the bigger fire Thursday that led to evacuations.
She later admitted to investigators of having set the fires intentionally.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are four art classes for kids this month in South Lake Tahoe offered by the Tahoe Art League. Each class will be held outdoors behind the gallery, 3062 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
The classes are best suited for ages 5 to 13, and the Art League is also looking for adult & teen volunteers who are interested in helping at the classes.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office seeks evidence linked to catalytic converter thefts
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 7:13pmOn June 23, the Mammoth Lakes Police Department attempted to stop a silver Acura MDX which was suspected of committing catalytic converters thefts. The vehicle fled and a pursuit ensued. At the end of the pursuit, Jean Anthony Henderson-Hamilton, a 37-year-old male from Sparks, Nevada, and Deanna Kaye Douglas, a 49-year-old female from Fallon, Nevada were arrested. Henderson-Hamilton and Douglas had a number of stolen catalytic converters in their vehicle.

There was a Pro-Am on Wednesday and Thursday will feature a Celebrity-Am tournament. Also on tap are a short-game skills challenge between Annika Sorenstam, Paige Spiranac, and Kira K. Dixon taking on Hall-of-Famers Marcus Allen and Jerry Rice. There will also be the Korbel Long Drive Competition and a Tony Romo autograph signing session.
Massive numbers of July 4th partiers at Zephyr Shoals, leaving trash and waste behind
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 4:06pmZEPHYR COVE, Nev. - A massive number of young adults filled the beach at the site of the old Dreyfus Estate just north of the Zephyr Cove Resort on July 4, leaving behind massive amounts of trash and the beginning of plans on what to do before the situation gets out of hand. Without any restrooms at the site, one can imagine what else was left at what has become an uncontrolled party spot for hundreds of people, most in the 21-25-year-old range.

Electra Fire is 4,478 acres and firefighters have it 70% contained
Submitted by paula on Wed, 07/06/2022 - 7:30am7/8 UPDATE: Fire activity remained minimal today with the majority of the heat and smoke residing from yesterday’s burning operation. Firefighters are working to create and reinforce containment lines. Established control lines continue to hold and mop up and patrol will continue while suppression repair strategy is implemented.
The fire has burned 4,478 acres and is 70 percent contained. Many of the evacuated residents have been allowed back into their homes and some road closures remain.

In total, the litter-fighting teams removed 3,450 pounds of trash from the environment – litter that would have found its way into the Lake’s blue waters if it wasn’t collected by event participants.

Quick fire response to fire caused by illegal fireworks at Cave Rock
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/05/2022 - 1:02pmDOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - A very quick response by multiple firefighters kept a 4th of July fire under an acre at the Cave Rock boat ramp.
Just after the big South Shore fireworks show, Lights on the Lake, got underway, a group at Cave Rock started its own show with consumer fireworks, firing off shells into the sky. A fire started and everyone involved with the illegal fireworks show fled the area.
South Lake Tahoe domestic violence suspect arrested on several charges
Submitted by paula on Tue, 07/05/2022 - 11:28amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – A South Lake Tahoe man was arrested on July 4 after officers with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) were notified of a domestic violence incident.
According to police, Dylan Puleri, 29, was identified as the suspect and was reportedly armed with a non-serialized “ghost” AR-15 rifle. Puleri had left the scene of the domestic violence incident and his whereabouts were unknown.
Fire near Cave Rock shuts down all lanes of US50 Monday night
Submitted by paula on Mon, 07/04/2022 - 8:54pmUPDATE 10:47PM: According to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office: Small wild land fire near Cave Rock boat landing is under control but currently Highway 50 is closed in both directions while Tahoe Douglas Fire finishes with the cleanup.
BREAKING NEWS: A fire has been reported near Cave Rock tonight and all lanes of US-50 are now closed in the area.
Please stay away so fire resources can get to the scene.

Buddy up. Adventuring with a partner is not only more fun, but it can be crucial in an emergency. Also, share your plan with another trusted person before venturing out, including where you are going and when you plan to return. Stick to your plan.
Know your limits. Choose activities that suit your physical condition. The pace should be comfortable for the slowest member of your group.
Electra Fire in Amador County now at 3800 acres, 5% contained

Firefighters have been able to gain a 5 percent control line on the fire that is burning in dry grass near Electra Rd and Hwy 49 near the Amador and Calaveras county lines, outheast of Jackson in Amador County.
The cause of the fire is under investigation. Lake Tahoe should expect some haze again on Tuesday from the fire.

Two former Navy shipmates reunite in South Lake Tahoe after 56 years
Submitted by paula on Sun, 07/03/2022 - 7:27pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The year was 1962, and Orly Larson and David Kramer enlisted in the Navy from their perspective hometowns. Two years later the men met when they were assigned to the USS Belknap DLG26, a brand new guided-missile destroyer.
The two shipmates were both Radarmen Second Class, specializing in the Naval Tactical Data Systems. They were both members of the original commissioning crew, also known as “plank owners."
Orly and David served together for two years on the ship, until the end of their enlistments, from 1964-66.
Thomas "Tom" Reid Meldahl ~ March 21, 1959 - June 11, 2022

Born March 21, 1959, in Valparaiso, Ind. to Roger and Jacqueline Meldahl. Tom graduated from San Mateo High School in 1977, then graduated from CSU Chico with a BA in Business Administration in 1982. As a sergeant in the US Army, he spent time in Germany as a radio translator. He then moved to his beloved South Lake Tahoe in 1988, where he was a bartender at Harvey’s Resort and Casino for over 30 years.
Power outage from the Tahoe Keys to western end of Pioneer Trail

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Over 4,500 Liberty Utilities customers in South Lake Tahoe are experiencing a power outage that occurred Sunday early in the afternoon.
Crews are working to restore power. The Liberty website estimates restoral of power around 4;13 p.m.
Many stores are closed due to lack of power so call ahead if going out.
Military flyover right above Lakeview Commons starts the 4th of July parade

There are over 60 entries and over 200 people taking part in the parade which runs along US-50/Lake Tahoe Blvd. from Ski Run Blvd. to Bijou Community Park.
The theme of the parade is "Tahoe Strong: A salute to our heroes."
To start things off at 10 a.m. on Monday, there will be a military flyover right above Lakeview Commons courtesy of the Nevada Air National Guard, 152nd Airlift Wing "High Rollers."

US50 reopens with one lane at Kyburz after truck fire ignites surrounding vegetation

Dangerous algae bloom detected at Indian Creek Reservoir

The Alpine County Health Department has been working with The Lahontan Regional Water Quality Control Board and South Tahoe Public Utility District and the Alpine Watershed Group (AWG) in determining that there are levels of toxin associated with blooms of blue-green algae in multiple lakes in Alpine County that are toxic to animals and humans.

The Humane Society of Truckee-Tahoe (HSTT) is ensuring pets are as prepared as everyone else in case of an emergency, especially at the start of wildfire season. A generous grant from the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation allowed HSTT to get pet “go bags” for emergency purposes, and there are still bags left in both South Lake Tahoe and Truckee. The bags are intended to be ready for “grab and go”, and will include almost everything your pet will need in case of an evacuation emergency.

Body of missing backpacker found in Desolation Wilderness near Lake Tahoe

On June 28, 2022, at about 1:40 p.m., the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) received a report of a tent that had been abandoned and blown over near Lake Aloha, southwest of Lake Tahoe. The reporting party said they were concerned due to the condition of the tent and personal belongings that were at the campsite. The items found included a USFS Wilderness Permit, and a driver’s license belonging to Jia Huang.

Tahoe Douglas Rotary awards Whittell High School graduates scholarships

The Rotary Scholarship Committee looks for students with character who have excelled in scholastics, leadership, athletics, and student activities.
The funds generated for these scholarships come through Tahoe Douglas Rotary’s selected annual fundraising events and related efforts within the community.
South Lake Tahoe celebrates 4th of July with parade and military flyover
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/29/2022 - 9:52pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe is celebrating Independence Day with its July 4th parade along US-50/Lake Tahoe Boulevard between Ski Run Blvd. and Al Tahoe Blvd.
The parade gets underway at 10 a.m. with an honorary military flyover over Lakeview Commons, courtesy of the Nevada National Guard, 152nd Airlift Wing “High Rollers.”
The theme of the parade is honoring heroes. It will finish at Bijou Community Park on Al Tahoe.
