SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - COVID-19 has changed a lot of things in Tahoe, but despite all the challenges, one great thing is returning, the Tahoe Brewfest for the Boys and Girls Club of Lake Tahoe. New location, limited attendance, and a different date but still great beer, great people and 100 percent Tahoe.

THIS EVENT IS BEING POSTPONED DUE TO THE THREAT OF WILDFIRE AND SMOKE FROM THE CALDOR FIRE.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Have you wanted to learn more about South Lake Tahoe nonprofits and volunteer opportunities but didn't know where to start? The Tahoe Women's Community Fund (TWCF) has created the first ever Non-Profit Market Mixer which will be held on August 26 between 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. on Ski Run Boulevard (yes, on the roadway in the area of the weekly farmer's market).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It's time to laugh! Comedy shows are returning to the South Shore, and fans can catch a show with three comedians this Friday.

Local celebrity Howie Nave will be hosting "Crafted Laughter - A Comedy Night' at the Stateline Brewery on August 13 at 9:00 p.m.

Nave has been traveling to Las Vegas, Carson City and Reno to perform, but this will be his first comedy gig in Lake Tahoe since the pandemic began.

Due to the rising cases, Barton Memorial Hospital has reinstated its Incident Command to prepare for the increase in the number of people who need care in our community due to COVID-19. The Hospital Incident Command System (HICS) is an incident management system, which supports hospitals and healthcare organizations in their emergency management planning, response, and recovery capabilities for unplanned and planned events.

The Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA) is once again inviting local non-profit organizations to apply for funds resulting from the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament. The deadline is Tuesday, September 7, 4:00 p.m. (PT) and the application is available at: https://ltva.org/american-century-championship-donation-request-application/.

As part of the July 2021 American Century Championship, American Century Investments, in partnership with the LTVA and NBC Sports, is committing $85,000 from tournament proceeds to organizations located in Tahoe South.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There have been 60 new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County since yesterday. With California and Nevada experiencing moderate to extreme drought conditions, it is crucial to exercise utmost caution in Lake Tahoe this year. Residents and visitors should be aware of fire restrictions in their area and the Tahoe Fire and Fuels Team shares the overall rules here. There may be tighter regulations in some areas.

Periodic lane closures will begin Aug. 12 on U.S. 395, Muller Lane, and Elks Point Road in Douglas County as the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) resurfaces sections of the roadways. Cave Rock State Park will also temporarily close in late August for resurfacing.

Drivers should anticipate intermittent lane closures and travel delays of up to 30 minutes weekdays Aug. 12 through mid-September as the following roads are resurfaced and re-striped. Not all routes will be resurfaced at the same time, and drivers will only see intermittent lane closures on each individual route.

For several decades, Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe (SISLT) has been awarding scholarships to exceptional students in the community to help them pursue their educational goals. This year the Youth and Education committee chose 11 students from Lake Tahoe Community College, 6 students from South Tahoe High School and 2 students from George Whittell High School to receive $1,000 each.

The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge is hosting the 18th annual Kid’s Fishing Day on a new date, Saturday, October 16 at Tahoe Paradise Park’s Lake Baron. The Derby is free to all children under the age of 16.

Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. at Lake Baron, near the main entrance. Hot dogs, chips, sodas, and water are provided free to all registered children. The event wraps up at 2:00 p.m.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - When David Stevenson was promoted to South Lake Tahoe Police Chief one year ago, he promised to create a plan to improve his department's response to persons experiencing mental health crises, substance use issues and homelessness.

"We have a responsibility to collaborate with regional partners and local community-based organizations to help the homeless, and people facing addiction and mental illness in our community,” said Stevenson at the time.

The River Fire that started on August 4 near the town of Colfax is now 68 percent contained and has burned 2,619 acres as of Monday morning. The cause of the fire that started near Milk Ranch Road and Bear River Campground Road, north of Applegate, is still under investigation.

Damage inspection teams continue working in conjunction with the Nevada County and Placer County building departments and environmental health department. They have identified 88 structures that were destroyed, 20 damaged.

Kaleb James Martin Curtzwiler died August 9, 2010. He was 28.

Mr. Curtzwiler was born Jan. 27, 1982, at Barton Memorial Hospital in South Lake Tahoe. The 2000 South Tahoe High School graduate was an avid soccer player.

Although he did not ski competitively, it was a sport he participated in with his family and one that he excelled at.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Temperatures will be near seasonal levels through
Tuesday with periods of smoke and haze, according to the National Weather Service (NWS)nin Reno. Moisture will increase Wednesday through the end of the week which will bring back the threat of thunderstorms.

Weak westerly winds could help to disperse smoke from the Tahoe Basin and areas immediately downwind of the Sierra Front late Monday afternoon. However, northerly winds look to push smoke back into these areas again late Monday night into Tuesday morning.

I expected to love the RC F, but I was wrong.

I disliked this car. How could I possibly mean that, though, when the machine in question is a gorgeous shade of exotic yellow, has carbon fiber strewn all about, and has a naturally-aspirated V8 with nearly 500 horsepower? The spec list is arousing to say the least, but when boiled down to the brass tacks, time and lacking performance have taxed the RC F into an artifact maybe best left untouched.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One day before the victim would have turned 46, another one of those involved in the murder of Dennis "Spike" Wright is heading to prison for at least the next 15 years.

Andrew Adams has been in the El Dorado County Jail since his arrest by the South Lake Tahoe Police Department on September 15, 2016 in his hometown of Suisun City, Calif. He was 25-years-old at the time of his arrest for Wright's murder.

A concussion is a type of TBI caused by a bump, blow or jolt to the head that can change the way your brain normally works. Concussions can also occur from a blow to the body that causes the head to move rapidly back and forth, as in whiplash. Even what seems to be a mild bump or blow to the head can be serious if it causes a concussion.

Kids who play contact sports are often at risk for concussion, which can put sports—and life—on hold. Concussions can cause a range of short- and long-term problems, and they can affect thinking and memory, vision, balance, language, and emotions.

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - There were 95 new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County since yesterday.

The 14-day case rates and number of the population per 100,000 residents are continuing to climb closer to data seen at the height of the pandemic in Winter 2020. It is already higher than last summer. At no time during the winter were all areas of El Dorado County in the red, or high spread, category.

The new cases for El Dorado County:

Pollock Pines, Camino, Kyburz - 590 cases - +4 - The 14-day new case rate is 28 with 206 per 100,000 residents.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After Tamarack the cub broke out of his Lake Tahoe Wildlife Care enclosure over night on Sunday, several reports have come into the nonprofit about sightings in the South Lake Tahoe area.

All sighting reports have been followed up on but one from Wednesday appears to be the strongest evidence that the 25 pound, 6-month-old cub is okay.

It is certainly the best business model I have ever seen. Pure Genius.

All over South Shore we see these cute little lime green scooters. We see them at bus stops. We see them at street corners. We see them in parking lots. All set up in little rows waiting for tourists to wave their phones at them and off they go.

So, what is the problem with that?

Well………there are quite a few problems with that.

The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) will host a public information meeting Aug. 10 to gather public feedback on corridor planning for future traffic improvements to the lower segment of Mt. Rose Highway (State Route 431). The study will envision future traffic needs and potential improvements to provide for traffic accessibility and safety amid community growth.
