Enjoy a Chautauqua performance of Lucky Baldwin and his daughter Anita - An Unconventional Success by Gayle & David Woodruff on September 25 at the Boathouse Theater at Valhalla Tahoe. Lucky was “one of the greatest pioneers” of California business. Earning a fortune in speculating on mining stocks of the Great Comstock Lode, Baldwin owned over 8,000 acres at Lake Tahoe, including some of the Lake’s only remaining old-growth forest (now the Tallac Historic Site as well as Fallen Leaf Lake).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue is hosting an emergency preparedness community board game night at South Lake Brewing Co. on Wednesday, October 30. The game has been designed specifically for residents and visitors to South Lake Tahoe. Light hors d'oeuvres will also be available for participating tables. Plus, prizes will be given out.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe Parks & Recreation Department is bringing holiday fun to the community when they host the inaugural Pumpkin Patch Splash on Sunday, October 13. This is a unique and festive event where kids pick their pumpkins straight from the pool! After choosing your pumpkin, the kids will head over to the Decoration Station to create their own masterpiece.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA) invites the public to be a part of a new affordable housing initiative, "Cultivating Community, Conserving the Basin." This next phase of the Tahoe Living program aims to make housing more accessible and equitable, while also improving the environment and climate resilience of the region.

My husband and I moved to South Lake Tahoe about five years ago from Denver, Colo., for an employment opportunity in town. The rise in the cost of living was immediately apparent and I, like many others, started to pick up part-time side jobs (in addition to my full-time job). My husband is a local electrician and also picks up extra work on the side when he can.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - They gave us a heads-up last year, and now the USDA Forest Service Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU) has made the official announcement that their Christmas Tree permit program will pause in 2024. The pause will last for several years due to limited cutting areas suitable for gathering Christmas trees.

Over the last two decades, most legal and safe areas to park during snow removal conditions have been cleared of suitable trees or are currently being treated for forest health and fuel reduction projects.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) has made some updates to its routes that will make getting around Lake Tahoe more convenient for the South Lake Tahoe community and visitors. Starting this week, Route 50 has increased its frequency and will now run every 30 minutes, ensuring more flexibility and easier connections for everyone. The bus remains free to ride.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Experience the Magic of Cascada De Flores: Música from the heart, at the Tahoe Arts Project's first free public performance of their 38th season. It takes place on Friday, September 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Lake Tahoe Community College Duke Theater.

Before considerable scientific research by Western Nevada College Professor of Geosciences Dr. Winnie Kortemeier, it was understood that Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America, was created during the Pleistocene era, also known as the Ice Age, roughly 10,000 to 2.6 million years ago.

Through her radiometric dating of rocks and examining the basalt that has interacted with the water of Lake Tahoe, Dr. Kortemeier has determined that the lake is 2.3 million years old.

The Carson City Sheriff’s Office will be hosting the 3rd annual K9 Unit Challenge and Public K9 Obstacle Course on Saturday, October 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fuji Park in Carson City.

This is a free, public event.

Dozens of K9s from multiple agencies will compete in three primary events: patrol apprehension, odor detection, and agility. Apprehension and Agility events will be on full display at Fuji’s main arena, where there are bleachers for public viewing (and cheering).

TAHOE CITY, Calif. – This 9th annual fun-filled cruise, A Liar’s Cruise, is back! On Saturday, October 5, attendees will cruise down the West Shore on the Tahoe Gal at 952 North Lake Blvd., Tahoe City. Onboard are spellbinding storytellers, free-flowing fine wine by Highway 12 Winery (no-host bar available), and endless appetizers sponsored by Raley’s. Attendees must decide if they believe the storytellers are telling the truth or not; hence, a liar’s cruise! The evening ends with a lively live auction of unique treasures and experiences. Chase International Foundation recently awarded $12,500 to Northern Nevada and California non-profit agencies as part of its ‘Four Pillars of Giving’ grant program.

The bi-annual grant recipients include the Ian Casey Foundation, Reno Judo Club, Food Bank of Northern Nevada, For Kids Foundation, Rescued Hearts Ranch, Sierra Kids Foundation, Sierra Lutheran High School, and Supporting Our Survivors.

TAHOE CITY, Calif. - The inaugural Tahoe Literary Festival is on Oct. 11 and 12 at venues in Tahoe City. Author and naturalist Obi Kaufmann is the keynote. Kaufmann will speak on Oct. 12 as part of the tour for his newest book, “The State of Fire, Why California Burns,” to be released in September.

STATELINE, Nev. – The Tahoe Knight Monsters, proud ECHL Affiliate of the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and the AHL’s Henderson Silver Knights announced today that the team has agreed to terms with center Luke Adam for the 2024-25 season.

Adam, 34, comes to Tahoe after spending the last eight years abroad. He played seven seasons in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) from 2016-2023, and split time last year with HC Plzeň in Czechia and HC Banska Bystrica in Slovakia. In that 2023-24 season, he played 28 games and totaled 15 points (5g 10a).

LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - From Baldwin Beach to Rubicon Bay and inside Emerald Bay there are approximately six miles of submerged century-old cables containing about 107,000 pounds of lead in Lake Tahoe. They are just feet away from iconic Emerald Bay, beautiful beaches and tall trees, and underneath the turquoise blue water Lake Tahoe is known for.
