ALPINE COUNTY, Calif. - Liberty turned off the power to areas of Alpine County including Woodfords, Markleeville, and Hope Valley for most of the day Monday due to a Public Safety Power Shutoff. Now that the power has been restored, Alpine County Public Health Officer Dr. Richard Johnson has released guidelines for determining if food is safe.
Johnson said keeping food safe will help minimize the potential loss of food and reduce the risk of foodborne illness.

STATELINE, Nev. - South Tahoe Now has teamed up with Another Planet Entertainment to give away two sets of tickets to see The Black Crowes at the Tahoe Blue Event Center on December 3.
Since forming in 1984, The Black Crowes have nine studio albums, four live albums, and several charting singles. Their latest album, Happiness Bastards, has been nominated for a Grammy for Best Rock Album. The 67th Grammy Awards ceremony will be held in February 2025.

3:30P Update: The Mt. Rose Highway has been reopened as firefighters have stopped the forward progress of the Callahan Fire. Fawn Lane and Callahan Road remain closed. These neighborhoods remain under evacuation orders as fire crews suppress any hot spots. Montreux evacuations have been downgraded and residents may return home.

After falling apart late in the third period on Saturday night in Utah, the Tahoe Knight Monsters responded in a big way Sunday with a 6-2 domination over the Grizzlies.
Sloan Stanick tallied four points, Simon Pinard scored twice, and netminder Justin Robbins tallied his first professional win to lead Tahoe to their first road victory in franchise history.
Utah struck first in the game, with Dylan Fitze taking a cross-ice feed from Craig Armstrong and roofing it past Robbins on the weak side. It’s just the second time all season Tahoe has not scored first.

Both of the South Tahoe High School soccer teams won the 2024 Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) State Championship this weekend.
The STHS Girls won the #1 seed from the north during playoffs, then won their first round on Friday against Dayton by a score of 2-0. They then met the #2 seed from the north, Truckee, for the state title on Saturday and the Vikings won 5-0. During the regular season, the girls ended with a 19-2-2 overall record, 11-1-2 (2nd) in league.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There is a quick-moving storm forecast for Lake Tahoe on Monday, Veteran's Day. The National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno has issued both a Winter Weather Advisory and a Lake Wind Advisory.
The Lake Wind Advisory is for 10 p.m. Sunday through 7 p.m. Monday. Southwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and waves 2 to 4 feet for Lake Tahoe.

MONDAY Update: Liberty is implementing a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) for Markleeville, Woodfords, and Desolation Hotel (Hope Valley) customers due to extreme fire conditions. Customers need to plan for an extended power shutoff that will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, November 11, and could last more than 24 hours.
If they are unable to secure necessary alternative power, customers are encouraged to visit the Liberty Community Resource Center from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. at the Woodfords Community Center, 96 Washoe Blvd.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Historical Society (LTHS) is holding its popular Giant Paper Flake Making Class on Wednesday, November 20 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The cost is $15 for LTHS members and $20 for nonmembers. Reservations are required and class size is limited. The class will be held at the History Museum, 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

In October, a Moms Who Brunch event was hosted at The Idle Hour in support of the Tahoe Valley Elementary School Visual and Performing Arts Booster (VAPA). SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Smoke from prescribed fire operations in the Sierra Nevada and areas west has found its way into the Lake Tahoe Basin. While none of the fires are currently active, there was residual smoke that got trapped in an inversion layer.
The prescribed fires in the Lake Tahoe Basin were ignited through Friday south of Luther Pass Campground, on Columbine Trail, and Uppaway Estates, Glenbrook.
The National Weather Service in Reno said the winds that will be accompanying the incoming weather system on Sunday should move smoke out of the Lake Tahoe area....

I just returned from the sold-out opening night of Little Shop of Horrors at South Tahoe High. I'm still on the high, so I can only imagine how the cast and crew are celebrating tonight! In a word, spectacular. Oh, and campy, grotesque, and hilarious. Yeah, I know it's weird that I've never seen the movie (or the other movie from 1960, with Jack Nicholson?!) so my shock and surprise at the storyline is truly the highlight of my evening at the theater.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The City of South Lake Tahoe has released the second quarter (April-June) sales tax report. Tax received on sales in the city was up for this quarter by 4.4 percent while El Dorado County and the State of California were both down in this same period.
South Lake Tahoe’s gross receipts from April through June were 4.2 percent above the second sales period in 2023. After adjusting for reporting modifications such as audit corrections and delayed payments, actual sales were up 4.4 percent. Sales tax results varied across tax groups.
