Emmy-winning film "Chasing Ice" comes to LTCC this Friday

Event Date:
April 17, 2015 - 6:30pm

They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. Nowhere is that more apparent than in the film Chasing Ice. The Emmy-winning film will be shown on April 17th at 7:00 p.m. in Duke Theater at Lake Tahoe Community College.

Peter and Nancy Hussmann, owners of Lake of the Sky Outfitters, first showed this movie in December of last year as part of their Monthly Movie series. Not only did “Chasing Ice” have a profound effect on the audience, but it also opened Nancy’s eyes to the impact of climate change on the glaciers around the world. “This is a really powerful film - we have to get this movie out to a larger audience and on a much larger screen”, said Nancy.

Peter and Nancy also wanted to show people the effect that climate change is having in our own backyard. So they have teamed with Keep Tahoe Blue, Sierra Nevada Alliance, and LTCC’s Wilderness Education department, to bring this hauntingly beautiful movie to LTCC’s Duke Theater. Come and witness how photographer James Balog travels to Iceland to record the rapidly receding glaciers on that continent and other locations. Using time lapse photography as well as live action recordings to create stunning photos, he makes a compelling case that our Earth is in a major state of change.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, and children under 12 are free. Advance tickets may be purchased at Lake of the Sky Outfitters, Keep Tahoe Blue, and online at sierranevadaalliance.com. Tickets may also be purchased at the box office which opens at 6:30pm prior to the screening. This is also a fundraising event, and all proceeds will benefit Keep Tahoe Blue and Sierra Nevada Alliance.
