Forest Service to resume prescribed burn Friday near Meyers

Prescribed fire operations will continue on Friday at South Lake Tahoe near Meyers, according to the U.S. Forest Service. Smoke will be visible throughout the area.

Prescribed fire operations resume near Meyers
U.S. Forest Service fuels management crews are scheduled to resume prescribed fire operations on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe tomorrow, Friday, January 6, 2012. Operations will take place in Pioneer Trail and U.S. Highway 50 area, near Meyers. Fuels Management crews expect to complete one acre, which will be extinguished at the end of the crew shift.
Residents and visitors can expect to see smoke from this prescribed fire project area. Smoke may be visible near the intersection of U.S. Highway 50 and Pioneer Trail. The Forest Service strives to minimize the impacts of smoke on local communities. Smoke-sensitive residents should consider staying indoors and keeping doors, windows and outside vents closed. Forest Service staff will post road signs around areas affected by prescribed fire, and update the local fire information line at (530) 543-2600, #6. Other federal, state and local fire management agencies may also be conducting prescribed fire work during this period.
