South Lake Tahoe to have own Women's March on Washington

Event Date:
January 21, 2017 - 11:00am

South Lake Tahoe, Calif. - No need to head to the Capital for the Women's March on Washington, South Lake Tahoe will have their own march.

Soroptimist International of South Lake Tahoe has sanctioned the Lake Tahoe Bi-State Women's March on January 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

Everyone is invited to walk in unity with all Americans to send a message to elected officials to protect constitutional values and the rights of women and targeted groups in the nation's diverse and vibrant communities.

Hundreds of other marches will take place around the world that day - in Reno, Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, London, Copenhagen and more.

What started with a retired lawyer in Hawaii commenting on facebook, "What if women marched on Washington around Inauguration Day en masse?" She started an event page that now has over 100,000 people registered and an estimated 200,000 people will join her in Washington.

The Lake Tahoe Bi-State March is open to men, women and children and will gather between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. in the parking lot behind the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Lake Tahoe. The march will continue down Highway 50 through South Lake Tahoe and will conclude at Lakeview Commons where there will be a program featuring community leaders and advocacy groups.
