USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships head to Reno next week

The USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships will be held in Reno at Rancho San Rafael Regional Park January 9-14, 2018. The park will be transformed into a course that will see the nation’s leading amateur and professional cyclocross racers. Thirty-six national titles are on the line. National champions will be crowned in junior, collegiate, U23, masters, and elite divisions.

Nearly 2,000 racers from across the U.S. will convene at the park with competition beginning Tuesday, Jan. 9 with a full day of non-championship races. The contests to determine winners of the coveted Stars-and-Stripes jerseys begin Wednesday, Jan. 10 in collegiate categories. Masters events for men and women will be held Jan. 10-12. Saturday features events for juniors and Industry Men and Women. The championships culminate on Sunday with the Junior 17-18 Men as well as U23 and elite competitions for men and women.

Among the athletes who will be on hand to defend their titles are the defending elite national champions - Katie Compton (Colorado Springs, Colo./KFC Racing p/b Trek Panache) and Stephen Hyde (Easthampton Mass./Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld.com). Compton will go after an unprecedented 14th consecutive win in the elite women’s field. Hyde won the inaugural ShoAir US Cup-CX Series title in 2017 and finished third overall in the USA Cycling Professional Cyclocross Calendar (ProCX). Closed Park areas include:

The main playground
The Peavine and Pagoda picnic areas
The Nevada Farms and Families area
The main turf throughout the park
Open Park areas include: A portion of the multi-use pasture, which allows off-leash dogs, will remain open as well as the Wilbur D. May Museum and Arboretum, and the entire north side of the park including The Ranch disc golf course.

Accessibility and parking: The north side of the park will only be accessible from the Reno Sport Complex parking area. Parking throughout the park will be extremely limited.

This limited Park access will begin Friday, January 5 through January 15.
