New "Do It Yourself" boutique opens in South Lake Tahoe

The resurgence of small and unique businesses in South Lake Tahoe continues with the opening of the Wildwood DIY Boutique.

Owner Liza Utzig Schafer, a long time local resident, opened the shop in December and she says she's been busy ever since.

One can call her store an "in-person" Etsy, which is an e-commerce website full of handmade, unique and vintage items and supplies. Schafer's store is full of craft items, locally handmade items as well as things from independent artists.

A grand opening was held on Saturday, January 17 and the response was big. Wildwood DIY was full of friends, neighboring business owners and customers, all wanting to see what the new boutique has to offer.

There are craft kits, hand made jewelry and art and items you won't find in any other South Lake Tahoe stores including embroidered and wood crafted souvenirs.

Prior to opening the boutique, Schafer worked for several years at the South Lake Tahoe Women's Center (what is now known as Live Violence Free) and Lake Tahoe Community College.

Another interesting part of the shop is the craft class room. Schafer is offering classes from string art to jewelry making. To find out what is happening, become a fan on facebook, follow her on Instagram or visit her website.

A couple of classes to take note of: String Art on February 1 and a joint venture with Bona Fide Books on February 6. That class will be a letter press card making class with Bona Fide owner Kim Wyatt. Both of those classes are $25 each.

Wildwood DIY is located at 989 Tallac Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. They are open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Their phone number is 530-416-0459.
