A cleaner, greener future is focus of next talk at Lake Tahoe Community College

Event Date:
March 2, 2016 - 6:00pm

The Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation’s Speaker Spotlight Series continues on Wednesday, March 2 at 6:00 p.m. in the Board/Aspen Room when renewable energy expert Dr. Eric Munsing presents, “Cars that Run on Sunshine: Making Electricity Greener.” This is a free event, and the entire community is welcome to attend.

Dr. Munsing will talk about the opportunities and challenges facing California in the state’s effort to reach its climate change goals. Renewable energy and electric vehicles are considered to be two important energy solutions, but both present many technical challenges for our aging electrical grid. Dr. Munsing will discuss how the electricity system is being adjusted to allow for a cleaner, greener future.

Dr. Munsing is currently a researcher in the Energy, Civil Infrastructure, and Climate group at UC Berkeley. The group is studying complex systems with feedback loops between environmental, technological, and societal input. The group is specifically focusing on engineering California's infrastructure to meet the demands of a low-carbon energy system.

The LTCC Foundation’s Speaker Spotlight Series brings faculty and academic experts from LTCC and other colleges and universities to South Lake Tahoe to share their knowledge and experiences with local students, and to encourage youth to pursue careers in the fields of science, technology and math.
