Tahoe athletes to offer backcountry safety tips during free live panel session

Featuring some of the biggest names in skiing and snowboarding, the inaugural Tahoe Backcountry Awareness Week will culminate with the Athlete Summit on Thursday, December 17. The free virtual event, designed to encourage those planning to venture into the backcountry to educate themselves before doing so, will take place from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. with a live Q&A period with Michelle Parker, Jeremy Jones, Elyse Saugstad, Cody Townsend and Amie Engerbretson.

South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge Kids’ Fishing Derby a success

The South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge hosted another successful Annual Kid’s Fishing Derby on Sunday, September 22, 2019, at Lake Baron at Tahoe Paradise Park. This was the 17th year the Moose Lodge has hosted this free event for children in the Lake Tahoe area.

Registration began at 8:00 am and wrapped up at 2:00 p.m. Hot dogs, chips, sodas, and water were provided free to all registered children.

Remembering Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s at Dangberg Historic Park

On Saturday, September 28, at 10:00 am, the final event of the 2019 Festival season features members of the 1962 graduating class of Douglas High School sharing their memories of Carson Valley in the 1950s and 1960s.

Carson Valley has always been a unique, close-knit community. Of the original thirty-five graduating students, twenty-one are still living, many of whom have remained in Carson Valley.

Graduates of the Douglas High School Class of 1962 continue to meet regularly, explaining that they are good friends who enjoy reminiscing.

ZEPHYR COVE, Nev. – Area youth are invited to participate in the Zephyr Cove Tennis Club's summer programs which include camps and a free tennis skill class.

On June 8, a free event at the courts will be designed as a refresher for those who have swung a racket before and a chance for newcomers to learn the basics. It is open to anyone ages 4-12. This is his third summer at the Lake Tahoe club.

Author to present Emerald Bay and Desolation Wilderness book at historic estate

TERC talk at Lake Tahoe: The Last Straw

Beach Retreat turns into Winter Wonderland

The Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe is not your normal lake front hotel this season. It has been transformed into something from the North Pole. Walk through the grounds and look at their lights and holiday decor that cover every inch of the resort and stay on display until mid-January. All Winter Wonderland events are family friendly, and some are even pet-friendly. Children must be accompanied by an adult at all events.

Santa, caroling and sleigh rides at Holiday in History

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join in the holiday fun at the Lake Tahoe History museum complex on Saturday, December 9, 2017.

It all starts at 11:00 a.m., with the decorated museum and cabin both open for tours with hot cider and treats all day. Then, at 5:00 p.m. its all about celebrating with Santa coming by sleigh and rides on the sleigh for all, ukulele Christmas music, the South Lake Tahoe Children's Coral Society, free kids activities including gift making and refreshments.

This is a free event for all ages.

Backcountry skiers trigger avalanche near Mt. Rose

Three skiers in the Hourglass Bowl area on Tamarack Peak near Mt. Rose triggered a 600 foot long avalanche around 10:45 a.m. Thursday. Nobody was seriously injured though two of the party were slammed into trees and rocks according to the Sierra Avalanche Center.

Heavy new snow was falling rapidly at the time. The avalanche was about three feet deep and 200 feet wide.

A group of 4 or 5 were skiing in the area, with three of them involved in the slide. Two of the skiers lost their skis and another had a possible broken ankle.

Tibbetts primarily works with wood and has been featured during the Tahoe Art League's annual Studio Tour. He has donated several large sculptures to LTCC that can be found around campus.

Will’s Kids event brings art to 300 South Shore youth

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It was a beautiful day for the arts as the second annual “Will’s Kids” art fair took place at Valhalla Tahoe on Friday, August 4th. The event drew three hundred local youth and their families to see a free performance of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival’s D.G. Menchetti Young Shakespeare Program. The Young Shakespeare Program takes the mainstage Shakespeare performance from the annual Sand Harbor festival and condenses it to a one hour version accessible for children. Senator Diane Feinstein hosts Lake Tahoe Summit; Public invited

The 2017 Lake Tahoe Summit will be hosted by California Senator Dianne Feinstein from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 22 at Valhalla Tahoe in South Lake Tahoe.

This is a free event but attendees are asked to register HERE.

Public shuttles will be available to the event site as parking is limited.

Details on the agenda and the event are still being worked out and not been released.

Wildfire Safety Expo in South Lake Tahoe Saturday

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue along with multiple local agencies are coming together and hosting the 4th annual Wildfire Safety Expo on Saturday, June 17 from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the TJ Maxx parking lot located at the “Y” where
Highways 50 and 89 intersect.

Everyone one is invited to the free event with lots of information about being prepared in case of a wildfire.

Reception for new South LakeTahoe art gallery at City Hall

A reception to unveil the new art gallery at City Hall in South lake Tahoe will be held on Monday, June 12 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The public is invited to this free event.

The City and Tahoe Arts Alliance (TAA) have teamed up on the project which will bring work of local artists to the walls at the entrance of City Hall at the airport. Their art will be rotated throughout the year and all art will be available for purchase.

The new art gallery reception will include a meet and greet with displaying artists and city officials.
