SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Family Resource Center (FRC) has been operating the used book store "Bookworks" in the South Lake Tahoe community for the past 27 years.
The nonprofit's store is currently located in the Lakeview Plaza, 3330 Lake Tahoe Blvd # 9, South Lake Tahoe, Calif. Their current hours are 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday-Saturday.
Through the generous support of the local community with donations of books and the volunteers who manage the store, there are currently over 5000 books that cover over 160 genres for sale.
All book store proceeds are returned to the community through the Family Resource Center whose Mission Statement is “To enable individuals and families to achieve self-sufficiency and economic stability, to develop resilience in both parents and children, and to allow families to become a contributing part of the community.” The FRC is a school-based public benefit, not for profit California corporation.
Some of the FRC programs offered include:
• Daily ESL classes in partnership with the Lake Tahoe Community College
• Monthly commodity food assistance with El Dorado Food Bank
• Clothes Closet for children and adults in need
• Bilingual counseling services available
• Seasonal activities for children and families
• In partnership with LTUSD schools and LTCC
