South Lake Tahoe's Jamie Anderson Continues Her Winning Ways

Olympic gold medalist Jamie Anderson of South Lake Tahoe landed another major slopestyle victory at the Burton U.S. Open Friday. Anderson clinched the TTR World Snowboard Tour slopestyle title with her win at the snowy Vail Mountain venue. Canadian Spencer O’Brien took second and Isabel Derungs of Switzerland third in the women’s final. Canada’s Mark McMorris took the victory for the men with Norwegian Stale Sandbech taking second and Candian Max Parrot third.

"It feels amazing," Anderson Said. "We definitely were under the winter elements today, which kind of felt good. It’s snowy, the course is a little crazy, but I was so impressed with all the girls’ riding and just happy to be out here in Vail. This win is different than the Olympics because I didn’t have all the pressure on me, but I like to do my best all the time and being able to participate in the U.S. Open is huge for me. It means so much. It’s definitely the full element here in Colorado, but it makes us realize we really are in a winter wonderland. Thankfully a lot of time we have good weather, but days like this really make you appreciate those bluebird days."

Anderson’s winning run: gap to boardslide, 50-50 to frontside boardslide, 50-50 to backside 180 tail-tap out, cab 720 nose, switch backside 540 Indy and frontside 720 mute.

Hannah Teter, also of South Lake Tahoe, has advanced to the halfpipe finals on Saturday. The men’s and women’s halfpipe finals kick off Saturday at 10:15 a.m. and can be streamed live at www.burton.com. They will be aired on Fox Sports.

Both Anderson and Teter will join South Lake Tahoe's other Gold Medalist Maddie Bowman in next week's community Olympic parade. The Olympians will travel on a fire truck from South Tahoe High School onto Highway 50, past the airport and through the town of Meyers where all three live, concluding their trip for a celebration at Sierra-at-Tahoe resort.

Community members can line Highway 50 at 1 p.m. March 15 to cheer the Olympian procession as it drives by.
