The Lake Tahoe South Shore Chamber of Commerce (Tahoe Chamber) Board of Directors named Roberta Mason and Sherm McKissock honorary lifetime members of Tahoe Chamber for their contributions to the South Shore community. Patrick Atherton was awarded an honorary annual membership. Mason, McKissock and Atherton were presented with honorary memberships at the Tahoe Chamber Board of Directors meeting on March 19, 2015.
Each recipient has dedicated extensive time to improving the South Shore community. Mason has long supported the community through her work at Lake Tahoe Community College. She commended the ongoing efforts of the current community to improve the South Shore by saying that “it’s much easier to build than remodel.”
“It’s a real job to rebuild,” Mason said. “The community needs a lot of help right now, but I am thankful that we are working to [rebuild].”
McKissock served as the president and later as the manager of the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce. He recounted the day he was elected as president of the chamber.
McKissock reminisced with a story of how he originally came onto the chamber board sharing a story of an election with two candidates. However, neither side gathered enough votes, so McKissock was nominated and elected as president. After his election a chamber board member commented that it was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard.
“I agreed,” McKissock said. McKissock later went on to become chamber manager.
Atherton was presented the annual membership for his past role as Tahoe Chamber chair and for his current role as chair of the Tahoe Chamber Government Affairs Committee (GAC). Atherton commented that the consolidation of the South Lake Tahoe Chamber of Commerce and the Tahoe Douglas Chamber of Commerce was “the best thing the town has done”.
Honorary members are elected for life by a unanimous vote of the Board of Directors. For more information about Tahoe Chamber, visit www.tahoechamber.org.
