Proposals sought for public art display at South Lake Tahoe's Champions Plaza

The City of South Lake Tahoe has completed the groundwork for Champions Plaza and now they're looking for an artist(s) to create an original art piece and/or flag designs to be permanently displayed at the the plaza located on the corner o Highway 50 and Lakeview Avenue, across from Lakeview Commons.

On the heels of the 2014 Winter Olympics, in which several of local athletes earned Olympic Medals, the idea of creating a Champions Plaza was born. To honor and recognize these athletes, and all local athletes that have achieved national and world titles, the City Council approved the construction and design of a Champions Plaza.

Lakeview Commons is a world class park with world class views and makes for the perfect backdrop for Champions Plaza and Public Art. Champions Plaza has been designed to include an area for flag poles, a “Wall of Champions”, a “Walk of Champions” and a stone pedestal area to replicate a “tiered winner’s podium/stage”.

The City is seeking an art piece(s) that is original in its design with a strong emphasis on summer and winter sports in which our local athletes participate.

Proposals are due on or before 06/12/15 no later than 12:00 p.m. (Pacific Standard Time), at City of South Lake Tahoe, Attn: Tina Shannon, 1901 Airport Rd, South Lake Tahoe, CA 96150. More information can be found online at http://www.planetbids.com/portal/portal.cfm?CompanyID=14997#
