South Lake Tahoe forecast: Building high pressure; above average temps by weekend

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Low pressure will bring chances for showers and seasonal temperatures the first part of the week. The best chance of showers will be in the eastern Sierra Monday afternoon and evening where some light snow accumulation is possible at the highest passes. High pressure will build for the end of the week with dry conditions and temperatures rising to well above normal levels over the weekend and early next week, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Reno.

Their seven-day forecast for South Lake Tahoe:

Monday - Scattered showers after 11am. Snow level rising to 7400 feet in the afternoon. Increasing clouds, with a high near 49. Calm wind becoming west around 5 mph in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 50%.

Monday Night - Scattered showers before 11pm. Snow level 7500 feet lowering to 6900 feet after midnight . Mostly cloudy, with a low around 28. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Tuesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 55. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph.

Tuesday Night - Mostly clear, with a low around 33. West wind around 5 mph becoming calm in the evening.

Wednesday - Mostly sunny, with a high near 61. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.
