Howard Bittner, a longtime South Lake Tahoe resident and chiropractor died April 17, 2016 after fighting a lengthy illness. He was 66.
Howard had been struggling with Pemphigus Vulgaris, an autoimmune disease, for the last 18 months.
Howard Henry Bittner was born on March 7, 1950, in Akron, Ohio. After growing up in Arizona and California, he attended Santa Barbara Community College before enlisting in the Navy. Howard graduated with honors from the Palmer College of Chiropractic in Iowa in 1980.
A long-time member of both the Tahoe Douglas and Yerington Rotary Clubs, as well as the Kiwanis Sunrisers, Bittner was not only passionate about his career and helping others as a chiropractor, he was generous to the community.
He lived in South Lake Tahoe for 33 years before moving to his ranch with wife Mary in Yerington, Nevada. Most recently they lived in Wellington.
After retiring, Howard enjoyed remodeling, landscaping and gardening, spending time on the ranch, fishing, boating, motorcycle riding, biking, bowling, skiing and snowmobiling.
He is survived by his wife Mary; daughter Elizabeth of Reno; mother Ester, brother Tim (Leslie), and sister Priscilla, all of Pismo Beach; several nieces; and his devoted golden retriever and healing companion, Rosie.
There will be a memorial service May 28 at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1041 Lyons Ave., South Lake Tahoe, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, donation may be made to one of the rotary clubs.
