2018 Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival schedule announced

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The coming months at the historic Valhalla Grand Hall, Grand Lawn and Boathouse Theater will be busy with a full slate of activities planned for the 2018 Valhalla Art, Music and Theatre Festival.
The festival is Valhalla Tahoe’s flagship event, a unique celebration of music, theatre and the visual arts. The festival is set against the magnificent backdrop of Lake Tahoe and the Tallac Historic Site. Looking forward to its 34th year, it is produced by Valhalla Tahoe.
The Festival begins in mid-June with events and activities that continue throughout August.
This year's schedule:
June 22 – Opening Night with Little Faith - R & B gospel supergroup from Los Angeles
June 30, July 10, 24 and 31 – The Tahoe Improv Players 25th Anniversary Shows: They make stuff up, you laugh…it’s simple!
July 1 – Free Concert on the Lawn with Ciana - traditional Irish and Celtic tunes
July 5-8, 12-15 - Broadway in Blue - Classic and contemporary Broadway show revue
July 5-26 – Artist in Residence Kit Night: masterful studies in oil - FREE
July 10 – Artist in Residence Reception: Meet Kit Night from 4:30 – 6 PM and view her work -Free
July 8 and 22 - Comedy Improv Workshops: Discover and explore your natural creative talent, in a friendly, non-threatening environment
July 9-13 and 16-20 – Children’s Art& Drama Camps: Kids spend the day outdoors at Valhalla, using nature to explore their creativity
July 11 – Outdoor Evening Concert with The Nickel Slots as they connect Johnny Cash to The Clash.
July 15 – Free Concert on the Lawn with Yolo Mambo featuring transglobal rhythms and jazz
July 17 and 18 – Capoeira, Dance and Percussion Workshops with SambaDa: California’s favorite festival dance band offers two days of workshops
July 18 – Evening Concert on the Lawn with SambaDa, the West Coasts hottest Brazilian band
July 19-22 – Tea for Three: Ladybird, Pat and Betty - a one woman show that humanizes the political scene with a story both whimsical and deeply moving
July 25 – Blackie Farrell with the Bob Woods Trio: Legendary country songwriter teams up with one of California’s most fun rock, swing and rockabilly bands for one exclusive performance
August 1 – James Garner’s Tribute to Johnny Cash: Celebrate the life and music of the Man in Black
August 5 – Valhalla Staff Art Show – see what the Valhalla staff does in their spare time! Evangeline Elston, photography; Jeff Morales, oil paintings and Sharon Romack, textiles
August 8 – Charlie Hunter Trio – hear the authority on seven and eight string jazz guitar as he performs with his trio
August 10 – Gatsby Festival Weekend Concert at Valhalla Featuring Lolo Gervais - Kick off the Gatsby Festival with this inventive mix of classic and modern with a touch Vintage Jazz
August 15 – Songwriter Celebration Featuring Amber Cross, Rod Picott and Chuck Hawthorne, three of the great modern American songwriters
August 22 – Frobeck: High Octane Funk, Soul and Rock!
August 29 – California Voices Featuring Two of the unique female voices performing songs with a unique California sense of place
September 5 – Ultrafaux -acoustic gypsy jazz
September 12 – Radio Free Honduras: A diverse collective of musicians with a rich tradition of Honduran music
September 21 – Tom Rhodes Band – A contestant on season 9 of The Voice and a poetic, timeless and true songwriter
October 4-7, 11-14 – Steel Magnolias: Alternating between hilarious and touching, this play reveals the ultimate strength and purposefulness of sisterhood
2018 Special Events at Valhalla
July 28-29 – Wa She Shu It’ Deh: A culture and heritage celebration hosted by the Washoe Tribe of Nevada for whom Lake Tahoe’s waters and shores are sacred ground
August 3 – Will’s Kids Young Shakespeare: Lake Tahoe Shakespeare presents a performance featuring their Young Shakespeare company
August 12 – Gatsby Afternoon Tea featuring fashions from the roaring twenties and traditional tea & delicacies
October 20 – WordWave One-Act Play Competition Winning Performances
November 16 -18 – Valhalla Winterfest – Activities celebrating the season including the popular Holiday Faire and a special Holiday Concert Featuring the Oakland Jazz Choir.
