There is more snow in the forecast for the Sierra for elevations above 7,000 ft Thursday through Friday.
The National Weather Service in Reno says to expect winter driving conditions and possible chain controls over Sierra passes, especially at night or during heavier snow showers. Higher elevation routes including Sonora, Tioga, Ebbetts and Monitor passes may be closed later this week and possibly into the weekend.
Low pressure moves inland on Thursday, May 14 and it will produce a period of snow in the Sierra. Snow may be heavy at times, leading to low visibility and rapdi accumulations above 8,000 ft. Several inches of snow is likely above 7,000 ft with a foot of snow expected along the Sierra Crest in Alpine and Mono Counties.
Anyone planning outdoor activities in the Sierra or western Nevada should expect colder temperatures, rain and high elevation snow, with isolated thunderstorms possible.
