Northstar holds special women's biking events all summer

Northstar California Resort is rolling out the red carpet for ladies all summer long with specialized mountain bike events and activities designed to fit the schedules and coaching needs of local women.
During the 2014-15 winter season, Vail Resorts launched the 4Her initiative, offering one-on-one ski and snowboard instruction for women, by women. This summer, Northstar is continuing the trend of customized activities that are women-centric.
“At Northstar, we recognize that women’s busy schedules don’t allow them to spend much time learning new outdoor activities. We want to encourage them to give mountain biking a try by providing targeted programs and specific woman-to-woman coaching opportunities to make them feel comfortable and supported,” said Beth Howard, vice president and general manager of Northstar. “We want there to be an atmosphere of learning, trying new things, challenging oneself, and creating shared experiences across all riding levels and abilities in a motivational environment.”
LUNAChix Women’s Cross Country Clinic
Northstar will host a cross-country clinic for women on Tuesday, June 23 featuring professional female coaches Katerina Nash, Teal Stetson Lee, Suzie Snyder and Kara LaPoint with the Tahoe LUNA Chix. The pro riders will meet participants at the base of the Big Springs Gondola at 5 p.m. and guide them through drills to improve mountain biking technique on the mountain until 7:30 p.m. Riders are asked to bring a $15 donation to the Breast Cancer Fund.
Pumps on Pedals Returns for Summer 2015
The popular women’s-only weekly mountain bike ride, Pumps on Pedals, will begin summer operations Friday, June 26, reoccurring every Friday evening through September 4. Ladies of all ages and ability levels are invited to join the phenomenal women coaches of Northstar in making friends and honing their downhill, freeride and cross-country mountain bike skills. Rental equipment is available at the Northstar Bike Shop, and riders renting gear should arrive by 4:15 p.m. to be outfitted. $25 Pumps on Pedals lift tickets are available in the Tickets & Season Pass Office and check-in is at the base of the Big Springs Gondola at 4:45 p.m. The ladies will ride from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and are invited to unwind and share tales of the trail together in The Village at Northstar afterward.
Pumps on Pedals Women’s Weekend
New this summer is the Pumps on Pedals Women’s Weekend, featuring two full days of mountain bike coaching, breakfast and lunch. From August 15-16, ladies new to mountain biking, as well as seasoned riders, are invited to learn during the bike maintenance session, warm-up, a talk on the fundamentals of mountain bike riding and a full day of bike practice, exploration and camaraderie. Weekend packages and a complete schedule of events are available online at NorthstarCalifornia.com.
