Mark Rypien wins American Century Championship: Winner of 1st and 25th celebrity tournament

The end of the 25th American Century Golf Championship in South Lake Tahoe wasn't seen by the thousands of spectators that normally line the 18th hole in the final round.

Lightning caused the tournament to be placed on delay for a couple of hours, and by the time play resumed thousands of people had headed back to their cars, hotels and homes.

In true Celebrity Golf fashion, the end was an exciting one. At the time of the delay there was a tie between Mark Rypien and Jeremy Roenick, with Annika Sorenstam in third with just a few holes left to play.

When play resumed, Rypien had an eagle on 16 followed by two birdies. His score of 33 on the final round was the best posted during the three days of the tournament at Edgewood Tahoe. He ended up with a Stableford format score of 76.

Rypien, who also won the inaugural Isuzu Celebrity Golf in 1990, emerged the victor. Rain caused the awards ceremony to be moved from the 18th green into the clubhouse.

Jeremy Roenick and Annika Sorenstam tied for second with 65, followed by Jack Wagner with a 64 and Chad Pfeifer with a 61.

Last year's champion Billy Joe Tolliver finished 9th with a 56.
