Cram-a-Cruiser event held in South Lake Tahoe to feed local children

In 2012, Page and Sage was started in order to address the growing problem of hungry children in South Lake Tahoe with the help of Tahoe Douglas Rotary Club. With over 2,000 students qualifying for free or reduced breakfasts and lunches in the community, the need for extra food in homes was apparent then, just as it is now.

During the past two school years, 67 students received weekly backpacks full of food that they took home for the weekend. Sadly, the number of food insecure homes in the South Lake Tahoe community is not being reduced and many children need help. After all, who can study and concentrate when their stomachs are empty?

I took the Page and Sage program as far as I could without being a non-profit, and then came Bread and Broth to the rescue!

Page and Sage has become Bread & Broth for Kids (B & B 4 Kids) and the program will expand to 100 kids to start off the 2015 school year with hopes of enough donations to expand to feed all children who are hungry.

In order to start filling up the shelves, Bread & Broth 4 Kids is holding a "Cram A Cruiser" event on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the South Lake Tahoe Grocery Outlet. The South Lake Tahoe Police Department will be bringing an empty police car to the store which is located at 2358 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

The goal of the day is to cram as much food for kids as possible into the cruiser!

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., cash and food donations for the backpacks will be accepted.

The items needed are single serving items such as: Chicken Noodle Soup, Cup of Noodles, Ravioli, Spaghetti, Chili, Pork & Beans, Corn, Green Beans, Packaged Fruit and Applesauce, Vienna Sausage, Tuna, Easy Mac & Cheese, Packets of Instant Oatmeal, Boxed Fruit Juice, Granola Bars, Fruit Snacks/Roll-ups, Top Ramen, Nuts, Crackers with Cheese or Peanut Butter.
