TRPA Announces Community Appreciation Day and Lake Spirit Awards

By Kristi Boosman
The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency is hosting a Community Appreciation Day event on Thursday, September 29 from 4 - 7 pm to celebrate the Tahoe Basin community's commitment to protecting Lake Tahoe.

This fun, family event will include bluegrass music by local band, Bison, a free BBQ dinner, activities for the kids, an ice cream social hosted by members of TRPA's Governing Board and Advisory Planning Commission, and demonstration booths explaining TRPA's mission.

The event will also include announcing the winners of the Lake Spirit Awards honoring real people making real progress at protecting Lake Tahoe. Members of the public are encouraged to nominate exemplary members of our community who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to protect the beauty and clarity of the Lake.

"We would like to thank and honor those individuals in our community that are making a real difference protecting the environment," said Joanne Marchetta, Executive Director of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency.

Nominations for the Lake Spirit Awards can be made online at trpa.org, and will be accepted through September 19. Two winners will be announced at the event; one from the North Shore and one from the South. Winners will each receive a commemorative statue honoring their service, plus gift certificates for $150 from a local plant nursery.

The Community Appreciation Day and Lake Spirit Awards event will take place at TRPA's offices located at 128 Market Street on lower Kingsbury Grade in Stateline.

The Tahoe Regional Planning Agency cooperatively leads the effort to preserve, restore, and enhance the unique natural and human environment of the Lake Tahoe Region now and in the future. For additional information, call Kristi Boosman at (775) 589-5230 or send an email to kboosman@trpa.org .
