Senior nutrition program in need of volunteer drivers to deliver meals

The El Dorado County Senior Nutrition Program is currently looking for dedicated, caring volunteers in South Lake Tahoe to deliver meals to homebound senior citizens in the Tahoe Basin.

"We currently have a critical need for drivers in the Senior Nutrition Program in South Lake Tahoe," said Ruth Green, Program Coordinator for the Senior Nutrition Program. "We greatly appreciate the valuable service our volunteers provide! Without our volunteers many of the senior programs in our county would not be possible."

Volunteer drivers help deliver meals one day each week from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. to homebound adults ages 60 years or older in South Lake Tahoe. For many of those served, the daily contact with volunteers is as vital as the meal, according to Green. For volunteers who are unable to make a weekly commitment, back-up drivers are also needed for on-call purposes.

Meals are prepared and picked up for delivery at the Senior Center located at 3050 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe. While travel to and from the Senior Center is not reimbursable, volunteer drivers are reimbursed for their mileage along their delivery route if they choose.
