LTCC's President Murillo a finalist for top job in Contra Costa County

Dr. Kindred Murillo, President of Lake Tahoe Community College, is one of three finalists for the Chancellor position for Contra Costa Community College District. Along with Murillo vying for the job are Eugene Huff and Dr. Fred Wood.

Murillo told the LTCC Board of Trustees in January, 2016 that she was planning to leave within 18 months due to a severe allergy to pine trees, something she was unaware of when arriving in South Lake Tahoe in 2011. At that time, she and the Trustees met to discuss an exit strategy as she wanted to leave the area before Spring, 2017.

“I have loved the work at LTCCD, the faculty, staff, board, LTCC Foundation board, and the community of South Lake Tahoe,” said Dr. Murillo at the time. “But when you are severely allergic to pine trees, sometimes you have to make tough choices.”

Dr. Murillo and the other candidates will now participate in a series of 50-minute public forums on October 31. They will make statements and answer questions from attendees. They are open to the community, students, faculty and staff. The Governing Board will conduct interviews with the finalists on November 1.

A decision on the next Chancellor is expected two weeks after that process.

Murillo is no stranger to the college in Contra Costa County. She was the Vice Chancellor there before heading to Lake Tahoe. She's also been the Vice President of Administrative Services at Pasadena Area Community College District. She was promoted to Vice President of Finance and Administrative Services when Copper Mountain Community College became a separate district.

Gene Huff, one of the other finalists, has been with the Contra Costa Community College District since 2001. He has served as Executive Vice Chancellor,
Administrative Services since 2013. The other finalists, Dr. Fred Wood, is presently the Chancellor at the University of Minnesota Crookston. He spent 26 years at the University of California, Davis, where he served as vice chancellor of student affairs.

The Lake Tahoe Community College Board is actively searching for Murillo's replacement and interviews are expected to begin in December.
