South Tahoe High pair wins Nevada State Tennis 3A Title

The team of Louis Marin and Mickey Sullivan from South Tahoe High won the Nevada State 3A tennis doubles title Saturday, beating Preston Jorgensen and Boen Huxford from Boulder City, 6-1, 6-2

They began the state tournament on Friday with a match against Adan Cano and Kevin Giron from Desert Springs High. After beating them 6-3, 6-3 they went onto a 9:00 a.m. Saturday match against Zach Larson and Noah Warren from Truckee. Marin and Sullivan beat them 6-3, 6-3, setting them up for the championship game.

The state tennis tournament was held at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center in Truckee.

In earlier tournament action, Hawley Jarrett of STHS made it to the state singles quarterfinals after placing second in the Northern 3A Playoffs. He lost in that round to Boulder City's Andre Pappas 6-4, 6-0.

Also in the state quarterfinals on the girls side were South Tahoe's Abby Burns and Gabbi Fisher who entered the tournament in the 2nd seed. They too fell in quarterfinal round to a pair from Moapa Valley, 6-2, 6-1.

South Tahoe High's Northern Region Tournament results:

Girls Singles

Theresa Sandborn fell to Truckee's Annie Guerra 6-2, 6-2
Allyson Cromwell beat Incline's Kristina Goetz 6-0, 6-0, then lost to Truckee's Becky Ziegler 6-1, 6-3.
Lyndsey Allen beat Kacy Wright of North Tahoe 6-1, 6-7(3), 6-0, then fell to Truckee's Maya Willis 6-3, 6-2.

Girls Doubles

K. Mason and R. Bindel fell to Truckee's K. Greeno and M. Stokes 6-3, 6-4.
A. Gomez and I. Preston beat Incline's H. Bales and C. Winberg 6-3, 7-5, then lost to the doubles team that had earlier beat the other STHS team.
Abby Burns and Gabbi Fisher beat Sparks' A. Lopez and Y. Rios 6-0, 6-0; Incline's T. Redfern and E. Donahue 7-5, 6-4, lost to Paola Duenas and Lana Quint of Churchill County 6-2, 6-4 and beat Truckee's K. Greeno and M. Stokes 6-1, 2-6, 6-3.

Boys Singles

Hawley Jarrett beat Elliot Rost of Truckee, 6-1, 6-0; Colin Drewes of Incline 6-4, 7-5; and teammate John LaRue 6-2, 6-3.
LaRue beat Truckee's Hunter Collins 6-0, 6-0 and teammate Matthew Barnett 6-2, 6-3
before losing to Jarrett.
Barnett started his day with a win over Brandon Goodnough of Sparks, 6-0, 6-0.

Boys Doubles

Louis Marin and Mickey Sullivan sailed through the Northern Nevada regionals with wins over Fry and Larson of Incline 6-1, 6-4, Truckee's Drummond and Keith 6-1, 6-1, Truckee's Larson and Warren 6-3, 6-1 and another Truckee pair of Hippler and Schram 7-6(8), 5-7, 7-5.
The STHS team of Jackson Kuzmik and Bryin Schouten beat their first round opponents Lyon and Parkhill of Incline 6-2, 6-1, and then teammates Proctor and Sullivan 6-0, 6-1 before losing to Truckee's Zach Larson and Noah Warren 6-2, 7-5.
Proctor and Sullivan began their day with a win over Bryant and Martinez from Sparks, 6-0, 6-1.
