Search on for new LTUSD superintendent - Public invited to open forum in South Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The search is on for a new superintendent for Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) to replace Dr. James Tarwater who informed the board in June he would be retiring at the end of the school year in 2020.

At their last meeting, the Board of Education hired Rich Thome and former LTUSD Superintendent Rich Fischer of Leadership Associates to conduct the search.

The Board is holding a special meeting on Monday, November 18 at 5:00 p.m. to discuss the superintendent search process, characteristics desired in the new superintendent, identification of strengths and challenges facing the district, the search timeline, and board protocols during the search process. Closed session will be held at the end of the meeting. Here is a link to the agenda. The meeting will take place at the district office, 1021 Al Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe.

Fischer and Thome will be in South Lake Tahoe on November 19 to facilitate several sessions with various groups within the district’s community to receive input about the desired qualities and characteristics of the next superintendent. This input will be a valuable contribution to the recruitment and selection process.

The Board is soliciting responses to the following questions:
1. What personal and professional qualities for an incoming superintendent will be a match for the Lake Tahoe Unified School District?
2. What are the strengths of the District, and what are the challenges you see for the District in the coming years?

That evening there will be an evening Open Forum to give the public the opportunity to provide input and to hear more about the search process. The Open Forum will be held at South Tahoe High School in the Student Union at 5:00 p.m. on November 19, 2019.

There is also an online survey in both English and Spanish where members of the public can provide written input. The survey will be open through November 22. Comments will be used in the development of the candidate profile and recruitment process. (For online survey in English, CLICK HERE. For Spanish, CLICK HERE.
