Next TERC Talk: How to disagree with people about climate change

Event Date:
November 29, 2018 - 5:30pm

INCLINE VILLAGE, Nev. - There is hope when we find ourselves in the midst of an endless argument or discussion about climate change. On Thursday, November 29, join Professor Lynda Walsh at the UC Davis Tahoe Environmental Research Center (TERC) in an interactive presentation on how to debate this sometimes contentious subject.

Understanding the structure of arguments about climate change patterns helps us engage those who disagree with us more productively.

Walsh, a rhetoric professor from the University of Nevada, Reno, will introduce some basic but powerful principles of argumentation theory that will prepare participants not only to understand and debate climate change more effectively but also to locate common ground with those who initially appear to be opponents on this issue. At UNR the Professor of English teaches courses on writing and argumentation and studies public perceptions of science, particularly surrounding climate change and other environmental issues.

Registration for this event is required. The program will begin at 6:00 p.m. with refreshments and no-host bar from 5:30 p.m. - 6;00 p.m. at 291 Country Club Drive in Incline Village (between Tahoe Boulevard/SR 28 and Lakeshore Blvd.) on the campus of Sierra Nevada College. A $5 suggested donation will be collected at the door.
