The South Tahoe Police Activities League (STPAL) would like to extend a thank you to the many community members, organizations and volunteers that made it possible to offer positive alternative activities to the youth of South Lake Tahoe this past summer.
STPAL reached over 60 local middle school-aged kids with the opportunity to learn lifelong skills in mountain biking, skateboarding, and golf alongside positive adult role models.
We would especially like to thank Lou Eiguren, Fred and Marla Gartrell of Genoa Lakes Golf Club, Bobby King, Chris Holmes and Bryan Springer of Edgewood Tahoe Golf Course, the staff and guides at the Northstar Mountain Bike Shop, Theresa Papandrea and Ava Murphy of SOS, Carol Chaplin of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, the El Dorado County Mental Health Department and the Barton Health Action Committee and Chief Brian Uhler of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department. We would also like to thank our corps of volunteers: Mark Lucksinger, Andy Kaufer, Terry Daniels, Raegan Bellik, Steve Madison, Alexander Ghan, Jana Spano, Brandon Auxier and Jeff Roberson.
STPAL is local non-profit program run through the South Lake Tahoe Police Department alongside of the El Dorado County Mental Health Department and a seven member Board of Directors. STPAL offers positive alternative programs to local youth, activities that can carry them through school and life. All STPAL kids are provided academic guidance and tutoring throughout the school year, as well.
STPAL programs are created through youth group discussions. In addition, STPAL would like the community to know that anyone interested in creating a program is strongly encouraged to contact Brandon Auxier at 530-542-6100.
In the past, local residents have taken STPAL kids fishing on charter boats, on day hikes, rock climbing, trips to University of Nevada, Reno, on trips to see theater plays and various other activities. If you are interested in creating a program, donating equipment or volunteering your time, please contact Officer Auxier for more information.
